We came to know of this new college in Massachusettes recently from the college sent profile asking my D to consider.
On going thru the details of the college and the phisophy of teaching, we really become interested in such a college.

Do people know about it and how good is really this college and how tough is it to get in.

collegeguy2k7 : you missed the point of username.

I'm parent of Ivy hopeful. So it my D who is more into Ivies than I.
My first choice was MIT, till the DEAN scandal. Olin really looks very interesting to me.
I'm just trying to get some information, so that I can at least ask my D to consider applying.
I know getting into will be as tough as MIT or CIT if it is as good as it sounds to be.
Also I'm selfish too in the sense, if she go to Olin, I save a bundle.

In short: Olin is an incredible place full of very creative and intelligent students and faculty. While it's admissions is extremely selective (<10%), they have a special admissions process, called candidates weekend, wherein they invite 2x as many people as they would admit to a 3 day weekend to do team projects and interviews which aims to judge the students much fairer then test scores/essays/grades alone do.

Olin is a very unique place. I think it takes a very particular type of student to succeed there. Not only are their students bright, but they have a passion (with a capital "P") for engineering. We went there to visit and it was not for me, way too small and specialized.
I think their admissions process is very interesting, I like the idea of how they really get to know the applicants over the candidates weekend, but if you go to the Olin board, you can't help but feel bad for the kids who don't get in after going to the weekend. It seems like almost all of them come away from the candidates weekend LOVING the place even more, and are that much more disappointed when they don't get in. Oh well, it made my "online" rejections look kind of nice!! ;)
But the short answer ParentofIvy- Olin is a wonderful place ( and a great deal!!) for the RIGHT student!
