Admission question

Will UCI reject me if I will not take one AP exam that I planned for? I'm already admitted, but I'm afraid that they will make that decision. Do I need to tell them that I'm not taking one AP exam? Yet I'm still going to finish up the class.
I'm super stressed still about this situation, and I will call UCI to ask, but AGHH.. I really want to go to UCI, since this is my first choice, and I'm just freaking scared that this will jeopardize my status. Thanks very much for the help.

There is no UC requirement for accepted applicants to take AP exams UNLESS your high school requires that you take the exam to receive credit for the course.

So I basically wouldn't need to tell them that I'm not taking the test at all, even though it is in their records that I plan to take that AP test?

^yeah, please let me know too!
because i'm really not feeling AP spanish :(

While I am almost 100% sure it doesn't matter. ( I believe I had Spanish AP as planned and never took it)
I cannot find anything official saying that. Best bet is to use the message center on my admissions and just ask. but like I said, Im pretty sure it doesn't matter

**From UC website:
Although the College Board reports all AP tests results to the University, students should be aware AP test scores lower than 3 will not adversely affect their chances for admission.

While not definitive, relax you will probably be fine, but use the message center just to make sure =D

^ Breakfastclub

RELAX

Is It AP Spanish language?

It'll be mostly hearing a tape and answering to questions (either written or verbally)
Usually, the tape will tell u a story or anecdote of about 1-2 minutes in lenght and allow u from 5-10 minutes to answer about 5-10 questions. The tapes ARE FAST and if you're not use to listening to different ACCENTS and DIALECTS (i.e. people from Chile speak a hella lot different than people from Argentina) then you may have some issues

Also, the essay is a bit of a @!$$ to write, lol.

The test is also VERY LONG, but if u can hold your brain from frying, the end can bring u some nice "boost points"

The last section will be you listening to someone's biography or a news report. Then you'll have to record your answers onto a tape. Be clear with your speech and relax. I saw a lot of kids just throw away their tape recorders after that section (they didn't pass the test) so just be calm and cool.

I did a lot of errors on the essay and somehow I got a 5.

You'll be fine, and I think a 5 on AP Spanish allows u to jump to the better Spanish classes and gets you some units

UCI only uses AP scores for placement and/or credit.

The failure to take an exam would only be cause for rescinding an applicant if the applicant's high school gave the applicant a failing grade (or no credit) for the course because they didn't take the exam.

In other words, if your high school doesn't ding you for not taking the exam, neither will UCI. The only downside is that you can't get college credit unless you take the exam.

If you don't feel like you want to go through the AP spanish test, don't bother. You will get credit but I believe its only elective credit. Just having 4 years of Spanish with grades above a C allows you to cover all the Language GEs so you don't have to take language classes at UCI

i was in AP lit class but didnt take the AP exam. they didn't rescind or anything.

Turns out you do need to write in if you are not taking a planned AP test. They say that it will most likely not affect your admission, but they still need to know.

^ are you sure? where does it say that?

I called the Admissions Office earlier today to ask, and since I won't be taking the AP government test, I have to write to UCI saying that I won't be taking it, and and also explaining why I am not taking the test. They basically prefer an explanation to go along with it.

^ what's a good explanation for my teachers sucks and I feel even less prepared with spanish AP this year than spanish 4 last year? I really believe i've gotten dumber :( what's a flowery way to say.. I'm just not ready to take the test and i know i will fail?!

You could always take it and just fail. Won't affect you.
But anyways you probably could just tell that you do not feel prepared and are devoting more time to your other APs? You might surprise yourself though, I took the IB spanish test and did better than I expected even though my essay consisted of copying phrases from the directions of the test.(which were all in spanish. I mean REALLY?)

i didnt pay the deposit :(
and im sure i will fail guys. im sure
