Is data released that include out-of-state and international? I’d like to see how the schools stack up including those numbers. N/M its not, California only. At each schools’ site, you’ll see that Cal still wins for selectivity based on Fall 2009 admission (I do attend Cal)

UCI has always been a commuter school, it does not have a true “college town” community like some others have. It has some excellent academic programs however. One explanation for the increase in apps is that it is in a very populated part of SoCal and maybe many kids are deciding to live at home and attend a good school close by due to the economy. The stat numbers as we know them probably have been thrown out the window as far as guessing because everything has changed due to the economy.

UCI is under construction indefinitely (seriously) They are adding newer apartments right now as I speak. I seriously wonder where they will get money to finish 4 buildings, a parking structure and the new apartments. They still have land to expand on too…

Brando, the apartments are being constructed (and funded) by a private entity (American Campus Communities… the same folks who built VDC and VDCN, they just get to use university land and the university gets to negotiate leasing policies). The parking structure is covered by parking fees (that’s why it costs so much to park).

As I understand it, state construction funds for the Arts Building and Social and Behavioral Sciences Building were placed on hold due to the budget crisis. Construction on the Arts Building was halted in January, but S&BS proceeded with non-state funds.

I haven’t seen an update on the status since February… let me know if you see any sign of work resuming on the Arts Building.

The Under Construction Indefinitely thing is amazing. I remember the quarter where a ton of students couldn’t find their classes in the Parkview Classroom Building because it wasn’t added to the map in time.
