Admission/Rejection chances

I'm currently preparing to head into my senior year of high school this fall, and am a little worried on settling on a college that I can get accepted to and will benefit me in the long run. Amongst the colleges I am looking at are Michigan State University, University of Michigan Ann-Arbor, Depaul University, and of course University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Therefore, my question is to you guys is which school will offer me the best education in my intended major, and what are my chances of getting into UIUC?

Sex: Male
Ethnicity: African American
Residency: IL
School Rank: Top 25%
GPA: 3.2
ACT: 31 (With Writing)
Curriculum: (Honors, AP's)
Intended Major: Communications/Journalism

Extracurricular: Drum Major, Band Member (Trombone), Newspaper, Tech Club, Group Interpretation, Drama/Theater Club, Football (Fresh and Soph year), Student Council (Freshman)

Awards: Honor Roll, Leadership Award, SICA All Cast (Group Interpt), SICA Silver Medalist in Trombone Duet (Band), and probably a few more.

Outside of School: Part-Time Job (5hrs/4 days a week) at the Public Library

*So what's my chances guys? I appreaciate your help in advance, thanks!

i thought i remembered hearing NYU had a good journ program. did you consider them?... 31 is a pretty good ACT, you might stand a chance

Yea umm in state with a 31, you're a shoo in
Might wanna work on raising the GPA though
I am from GA and I know UGA has a really great Journalism program, it gives out the Peabody award each year, you should look into it
You could probably get into NW as well maybe even w/ scholarship b/c of your ethnicity

Good luck!

"Yea umm in state with a 31, you're a shoo in"
I have heard of people getting rejected with 34s instate. Illinois is starting to get tougher to get into.

Back to the original question. I'd say you have a good chance as long as you apply as early as possible.

dfriedm1... i dont know where to start taking apart your post.

state residency doesnt matter for UIUC.

obviously your biggest disadvantage is the GPA, and you probably dont have time to raise it (if you are about to become a senior).

APPLY EARLY... as early as possible. I applied in like september and got in with a 3.3 gpa and 30 ACT equivalent, but to Aviation, which I think may be a little easier to get into.

northwestern has way higher standards than 3.2 GPAs...

and he is DEFINITELY not a shoe in....

the act score, ethnicity, and EC's almost guaranteed he's in. but then the GPA and rank are what might bring him down. obviouslly he would be applying to LAS and that's not terribly hard to get into.
