I got the big USPS envelop on Saturday in the mail (I live in Maine). So excited!

Rejected. Not really surprised, Bowdoin was a reach and I messed up a bit in 9th grade.
Oh Well. Still waiting anxiously for Reed.

ACCEPTED!
Basic Stats: 2260 SAT, 780 USH, 800 Math II, 95.4/100 UW GPA, rigorous courseload with lots of APs/electives, managing board editor of the school newspaper, violin for 10+ years (orchestra programs/music camps/state recognized festivals), theater community, intern at political campaigns, national honor society (tutor/volunteer), peer mentor for incoming freshmen, pre-college summer program, national merit commended, ap scholar, scholastic arts & writing gold key
Essays: Common App was about music tastes, Bowdoin supp was about connection to a place in Maine
Hooks: None (White-Asian & middle-class), but I got invited to and attended the Explore Bowdoin November Session, which probably helped my admission
Comments: SO ECSTATIC! I loved it when I visited. The Dean of Admissions even wrote a nice little note at the end of my acceptance letter about my essay and how he remembered me from the program and how I should bring my violin to Bowdoin. Also they named me a Faculty Scholar, which is pretty sweet too. The priority mail package was just really nice
To those waitlisted - contact your regional rep, the admissions people are actually so so so nice!
To those rejected - don’t lose hope and know that in a week, you will all be in somewhere awesome and it’ll just be a matter of choosing where you go!

D ecstatic as Bowdoin is one of her very top choices- accepted as Bowdoin Faculty Scholar- (includes stipend for travel, research)
Stats:
SAT 800/800/720M SATII 800USHist 760Chem
4.00 UW/ 4.68 W
Varsity Crew & Volleyball, Yearbook editor, Governors School, etc
NMF/ 9 APs/ AP Scholar with Honor

I got an envelope. Guess that means I got waitlisted/rejected. Oh well.

don’t lose hope guys…a spot should open soon. i’ll send in my letter of unadmittance lol dont know what its called so that people on the waitlist can get off…i dont want to take someone’s spot away by waiting til the last minute

Got accepted full ride!! Excited! (:

I’m waitlisted. I guess I will take my spot, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Congrats to all who were accepted! Hoping to see you guys on campus soon :).

To those who were waitlisted: Please, please, PLEASE do not give up hope! Take it from a current First Year who was, by some miracle I still don’t understand, accepted off the waitlist last year. You’re all obviously hardworking and I urge you all to send letters of update and intent to your regional reps/the admissions office. Obviously, that won’t always be enough but it could go a long way to show that you’re committed to attending should they accept you and to provide meaningful updates on activities/grades. Calling them to ask why you were WL instead of accepted could also shed light on areas to address in your letter of update. This article was of particular help to me [You’re on the Waiting List. Now What? - NYTimes.com](You're on the Waiting List. Now What? - The New York Times)

I’m not sure how the yield will turn out, but last year I wasn’t expecting anything (apparently no one got in off the WL for class of 2014) and was extremely sad at the string of waitlists that rolled in around this time of year. But I still updated them with interest and Bowdoin’s yield turned out to be less than expected, prompting them to turn to the WL. I still remember getting that call on May 2 in English class and screaming in complete disbelief :). Getting way off track, but again don’t give up and keep trying! If not enough of the accepted applicants choose to commit, the college will turn to the WL. The March letter often isn’t the end of the game.

PM with questions, criticisms, etc.!

Last year Bowdoin planned to take applicants off the wait list, in large part because the year before the yield had exceeded expectations and Bowdoin ended up with a larger-than-anticipated first-year class by about 25 (this would be the class of 2014) and housing problems/congestion. I don’t know exactly how many were taken off the wait list last year but they started working through it in early in May and completed the wait list process relatively quickly (by the late May, IIRC). It may be the same again this year as last year so don’t give up hope just yet.

Have any internationals not received their emails? Bowdoin said it emailed yesterday but we still haven’t received it.

[] Strengths: test scores, GPA, rank. On my acceptance letter the officer mentioned my piano playing and essay about piano. So, I think that might have been what got me in.
[] Weaknesses: boring extracurriculars/awards
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: decent test scores and the admissions officer just happened to like me??[/li][/ul]General Comments: I was super surprised to see the big envelope…there is a substantial chance that I will be a 2016 polar bear!

I got in!!!

I got a 2210 SAT (800CR, 710W, 700M)
My GPA was around a 3.85UW
I’m president of my class, I do track, and tons of community service (500hrs+)
I don’t know if being Taiwanese helps (since most Asians are no longer URM’s), but that too.
I work as well.
My family makes about $60,000 annually, so I got 52k in aid.
I think my Bowdoin essay was pretty nice, it was about my personal connection to Maine.
I went to the Explore Bowdoin, and I also happen to be a legacy, so that might’ve helped…

Bowdoin is looking really good right now. I literally had a mental orgasm when I laid my eyes upon that massive priority mail package.

oh and I forgot…I also sent in an arts supplement of my piano playing…might have actually made the difference

Accepted to bowdoin! Now tough decision between bowdoin and Pomona

Why are people not *ting all over “carbon” for his/her obnoxious comments??? Seriously dude…we can all see your insecure posts about how you didn’t get into UChicago, so there’s no need to act all self-assured and ***y about Bowdoin, especially in a public forum. Get off the computer, stop obsessing with everyone else’s lives, stop your elitist bragging, and go read a book or go outside. Asshat.

Hi, this is my first post on here. I’m in California and I still haven’t gotten a letter, even though they were sent out over a week ago. Does anyone know why/is experiencing something similar?

Alex – [Bowdoin website says to contact the Bowdoin admissions office if you have not received your letter by Monday](Apply | Bowdoin College).

marcash check your junk mail

torasee-- Thanks, I saw that. I ended up just emailing my admissions counselor but will call if I don’t hear by Monday. Its the only school I haven’t heard from, so I’ve been a little anxious!
