Admission staffs convene today!

Admission staffs convene today!

I think today is the first day all admission staffs start to present applicants from different regions. Good luck to all!

Wait, uml, what does that mean? Do they like try to convince the committee to choose certain applicants or something?

I am not sure.

I read Gate-Keepers and it's about Wesleyan (and it's an old book) but I'm sure some things may hold true still. In Gate-Keepers, two admissions officers read the application and they would put down their suggestion. If there was a discrepancy (not a clear admit or reject), it would go to a committee or in other issues (such as deliquency or things of that sort noted on the application). There would then be a vote by committee. Although I believe Harvard has professors or other faculty read applications too, especially given that there's a huge flurry of applicants this year.

Doesn't the Dean of Admissions have to approve all candidates? This is probably just the regional officers showing who should be accepted, waitlisted, or denied. They need the Dean's thumbs up though, I would assume.

Good luck to everyone!

what if you did not have the interview yet

Probably means you got dominated

Yeah I didn't get an interview either and I wouldn't consider myself especially competitive for Harvard.

i don't think they assign interviewers on the basis of applicant strength, but based on submission date and geographical location.

i have heard, through a mutual friend, that i have been assigned an interviewer. but she hasn't contacted me yet. is it necessary to have it complete before the convention of admissions staff?

ack! the time has come. good luck to all.

Interviews are provided to ALL applicants -- this is what makes Harvard unique from other colleges.

xjayz, what do you think about international applicant where H states

"Applicants from these countries will be contacted for interview if the Admissions Committee requires more information."

do you think not getting an interview is a bad thing?

No. I would consider it that the Admissions Office believes the application provides a good enough portrait of the applicant to render a decision (which obviously can be a "good" or a "bad" thing for an applicant).

thanks for your opinion. so you do not think that they only give interview if interested in admitting you?

Is it too late to send updates then? D has received some awards lately. Should we just send via email or mail them a letter?

Interviews are not based on your strength. They try to interview all the applicants. The only reason why you won't have an interview is because you're an international and they don't have alumni (or have too many applicants from that country), you're rural and don't have too many alumni, or if your alumni interviewer is too busy and has been assigned to interview you but for some reason cannot get to you whether it is the sheer amount of applicants they must interview, their organization, or the busy lives that they hold. Also remember that the people that conduct the interviews are alumni volunteers and so not all alumni volunteer to do interviews.

thanks Quixotic

uml, what about midyear report? dont they need this before making decisions?

What if my application is still incomplete? I sent it some days ago and hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. I am so worried. They said I should resend by next Monday.

should I contact Harvard about interview, since I haven't been contacted yet?
I live in a small/medium city near a moderately large city and there are some large cities not too far away. I live in Ohio. is it likely that there are no available alumni volunteers?
I know that last year, a girl applied to harvard from my high school and she never got an interview either
