Admission statistics for Class of 2015

Maybe these numbers are helpful to someone. But I wonder whom. I actually love to use/read/dissect stats. But after D#1 has gone thru the process…applying to 9 schools (I know…we’re part of the problem)…it just drives home the point of how completely meaningless these numeric games are that the schools play with trying to keep accept rates low. If kids apply to an average of 15 schools next year, and the unduplicated number of kids applying grows by several points per year…many schools will be down to low single digits. Again meaningless.

Not that much larger than upenn…abd also im pretty sure that 18% is for the ivy part alone (artd and sciences) so that woyld be of comparable size

Wow mit isnt that high up

UCLA and BU anyone?

There are fewer kids applying now than three years ago, with lower admit rates, which can only mean that more kids are applying to more schools. I think this trend actually started around the time the population bubble was peaking and kids anticipated having a harder time getting in. Then the common app made it easier year by year for kids to apply to multiple schools. I think it makes it easy for parents to say, “Why not apply to Harvard? You never know…” and so the number of applicants increases. I really wonder if the quality of the applicant pool is really as strong as it once was. I’m guessing that there are some weaker applicants applying to reach schools because it’s easier to do so. The colleges are probably happy about it since they can boast a low admit rate, but I really wonder how it affects the ability of the admissions team to give as much attention to applications as they once did. I wonder if the seven percent that is admitted is really the same group of kids as the nine percent was a few years ago – it’s a smaller percentage because the pool is larger, but maybe it’s the same kids who would have gotten in if the pool was smaller. We had some impressive admits at our public high school this year, but the kids who were admitted, while very strong, are no more impressive than the ones who got into the same schools over the past several years.

@mimk6 While what you said about kids applying to more school is true, it seems to be common knowledge on CC. The first part of what you said is not essentially true. College have (slightly) bigger or the same class sizes since 3 years ago. For which I can discern that the number of total applicants has increased.

Class of 2012! O hell yeahh!

CAN anyone find (or know) Cal, Michigan, Ohio State, and UGA?

Vandy has only 1600 seats in Commons for freshman year. So, eventually 6.4% of the 25000 applicants would be able to get in. Though, I believe they send acceptance letter to a larger pool.

Madison does not admit Boys from the Minneapolis area at any where the same percentage. Unofficially I’d say 10 percent

I corrected this once before, but somewhere along the way it got uncorrected. There is no such place as “Harverford.” It’s “Haverford.”

Different thread.

The post above yours was copied on 4/11. Your correction on the other thread was one week later.

Now, we will have no excuses when updating the final admission rates for Haverford. Although you’d have to admit that Harvard Ford sounds good. :)
