admission status question

Question-
On my UCF admission status page, it indicates that I need to accept / decline for fall.
If I hit the accept button, what happens & do I have to pay the 200 tuition at that moment ?
Since UCF is a safety school and if I get accepted into FSU in December, do I then decline UCF @ that moment and does my admission spot then immediately go to another “still pending applicant” ? I really don’t want to “sit” on my UCF admissions until May, if I know that I won’t be enrolling and give someone else a chance. THANKS

i’m not exactly sure, but i just wanted to let you know that is really nice and very selfless of you. most people wouldn’t care. my guess though is that when you decline, you decline for good.

i read somewhere that there is certain date that you need to accept or decline by. you should call the admissions and ask them.

Correct and that date is May 2012. Even if I waited until UF announces in February 2012, there is still a three month gap to decline which seems unfair to make others wait for my decision. I get this feeling that many admission spots @ UCF will open up during December (FSU) and February (UF).

If you accept, they want the $200 deposit right there. Sit on it.

Do not accept your UCF offer unless you are positive you want to go there. You have until May 1st to do an acceptance. That means even if you are offered scholarship money, you do not have to accept right away. My d was offered scholarship money, but UF was her first choice. She waited until she got her UF notification to decline UCF (which was the beginning of Feb that year). You will see a lot of movement after the holidays when non-rolling admission schools start admits. But even then, sometimes it takes a little while more until folks find out what financial aid packages they’ll be offered at various schools (merit aid and financial aid). Make sure you have your FAFSA’s done and turned in so that your financial aid package can be addressed by a particular school. (I think FAFSA is available to be filled out beginning about mid-DEC … someone else probably knows the exact date).

But definitely … do not accept or decline if you are not sure. I can’t remember … if there’s a “defer decision” button as it’s been a few years since S and D were applying to UCF.
