Admission to Honors Program

I've been looking at Miami lately because of how awesome of a scholarship I could get. I also saw that there is a pretty renowned Honors Program, which intrigued me. With my stats, would I be likely to get admitted to the Honors Program?

ACT: 33 (34, 31, 34, 32) and (35, 33, 34, 29, 11) (retaking)

Taking SAT II's in October

Class Rank: 5 of about 320

UW GPA: 3.944
W GPA: 4.556

11 AP Classes, 10 Honors

Teacher Recs will be Fantastic

I would think you would have a good chance of getting in the honors program.

You should get in for sure - there are plenty of kids I know in the Honors program who have stats nowhere near this good.

If you don’t get in freshman year, you can always get in sophomore year as long as your grades are good.

Not anymore, they have/ are reconstructing the Honors program at Miami. You will no longer have the opportunity to reapply for Honors as a sophomore. You must be admitted freshman year beginning with the the incoming freshman class of 2018.

Those are great stats but don’t assume you will get in the honors program based on stats alone. Pay attention to your essays. Miami is one of the schools that really takes them into account. I know of several examples where a student admitted into the honors program had lower stats than students who were rejected.

It is hard to say for sure. My son had a 34 ACT, ended up Valedictorian, was Class President, played sports , etc and had a 4.4 weighted GPA, got 5’s on several AP classes. He did not get into Honors. However, he did end up getting a full-tuition scholarship and was named as a Pre-Med Scholar which awarded him a $2,000 renewable scholarship on top of the full tuition. He also got into the Honors dorm. He was told he could reapply for Honors but has decided against as he doesn’t see many more added benefits by being admitted into the Honors program. Hope that helps!

no - that has been changed you may no longer reapply after freshman year, you must be admitted as a first year student.

You only submit one essay as of this year.
