Maybe this is a stupid question, but if we get into the UWC's and attend one outside of the country when we're applying to U.S. colleges we won't be counted as international students, will we? I mean, we'll still be U.S. citizens, but then we'll have been studying in another country for two years. Like I said, it's probably stupid, but I'm just wondering.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. I really have no idea. How does that work for other boarding schools? I have a friend who lives in the west and goes to Phillips in New England, I wonder if he'll be considered from his home state or his school's state. I guess since a lot of admissions are regional based on school, it would be international? I really don't know.

I have no idea. I'm sure top colleges have many international students (but US citizens) applying, and that the UWC counselors have a lot of experience in this field.

On a side note: 62 posts and 1,454 views... wow!

Yeah, we'll deal with the problem when it comes up. I'm sure they have a system for this kind of thing.

And yeah, our thread is going strong! Let's keep it going. 44 days until our interview...

I'm very proud of this thread! I'm all for keeping it up until interview time. Perhaps longer, if we get in! On the topic of colleges though, what schools are you all considering for after high school, whenever that may be?

Agreed! I think we should say a little bit about ourselves to get to know one another better.

And my top two right now (and for the past three ish years) are Swarthmore and Yale.

I thought about Swarthmore for a while, but a friend's older sister visited and came away feeling like it was a little too preppy and that kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I know I should visit myself and see, but at least this way it's one less college to consider on a gigantic list.
I don't really have much of that list organized, but my number one school since like eighth grade has been the University of Chicago. "Where fun comes to die" really appeals to me :p

Hahaha, wow. I've never heard Swarthmore described as "preppy" before. Ever. That's very interesting that your friend had that experience. My older brother is a Swattie, and his friends are very quirky, eclectic, extremely bright, and pretty unconcerned with anything trendy. I highly suggest visiting, because while I don't think Swarthmore is preppy, it is extremely intense for certain majors. I think you'll find there are a bunch of different types of people there--whether or not you mesh with that kind of environment can be determined by having a good visit.

I'm not sure if Swarthmore is my number one, but I think it's definitely a good match for me. I'm really attached to Yale, but we'll see. I can't say "where fun comes to die" appeals to me as much as it does to you...haha.

Lol, yeah dying fun probably isn't very attractive to most people.
Anyway, I probably will end up visiting Swarthmore since it's not too far away. Not to mention there are a few other schools I want to visit in PA anyway, so it would be nice to have a look around any campus I can.
I've ruled out ivy leagues for the most part. I'm still kind of interested in UPenn, but I've pretty much decided that my chances of getting in are next thing to zero, so there's no point in getting hung up on them. :p
Just out of curiosity, what draws you to Yale?

What draws me to Yale? That's a long list.

-Residential college system
-Variety and amount of courses
-Undergraduate emphasis
-Liberal arts education
-Quirks and history
-Campus setting
-Best college newspaper in the country
-Abundance of extracurriculars
-It's the muggle version of Hogwarts.

: )

I think getting into a UWC would make a huge difference in our chances of attending an Ivy League, right?

Pretty much. Almost all the Ivies (HYP and the like) actively visit and "recruit" at the UWCs. Udub grads go to the top universities and colleges in the world, including the Ivies.

UWC-USA: Academics/Campus Life: Academics: Matriculation List
Certainly impressive, eh?

I've looked at that matriculation list before, and it does sound pretty great. That's one of the reasons I'm excited about the UWC's. It doesn't rank very high, but still, making myself more appealing to top schools is on the list.

Oh, and the Muggle version of Hogwarts made Yale seem about twice as awesome to me. :)

hmm, when you say that they actively recruit at the UWC campuses, do you refer to the one in the US or at the colleges overseas too? as far as i can tell, only the college in the US, Uk and Hong Kong seem to provide really good university admission guidance...

Wow, second page... We've been slacking! I wasn't sure if colleges recruited at all UWC's. I guess I've just been assuming they do. Even if they don't, attendance at a UWC would still be really attractive.

I'm ttarting to get nervous about the interview, even if it is just under a month away.

Hi all!
I was just wondering if anyone had applied and been asked to come for an interview by Mahindra United World College of India? I just got a mail inviting me for an interview and I am nervous beyond belief!
Does anyone have any idea about what sort of questions they ask? Or how many people are invited to be interviewed?

In the US, we were told that approximately 20% of all applicants were invited (~100). Supposedly much of the individual interview is based on what you wrote in the application and there will be group activities so the board can see how you interact with others.

I'm so jealous! Too late now for me of course, but this looks like a fantastic opportunity and I'm way excited for all of you! Good luck with admissions and interviews!

Just wondering... what is everyone wearing to the interview? I was going to wear black dress pants and tie but that seems a little too formal (and maybe the interviewers wouldn't like "over dressing," since UWCs seem fairly casual).

Yeah, I've been wondering about what to wear too. I'm hoping they'll get back to us closer to the interview date with details about dress. It seems like I read on some board that dress was casual, but I don't know for sure.
