Admission to Trinity College Dublin as an American

Hi! So I am currently a freshman in an American college but am considering applying to go to an international school in the UK or Ireland next year, as my American college isn’t quite the right fit for me. As far as I understand, most international schools don’t take American college credits so I assume I’d be applying with just my high school transcript. I am looking at Trinity College in Dublin and, according to the American international student admission requirements on the website, it says I need at least a 3.3 GPA and an SAT score of 1290. The GPA is not an issue as I graduated with a 3.9 but I’m worried about the SAT. I got a 1270, just 20 points shy of the minimum. Other than that I think I’d have a solid application. Will Trinity still consider me if I got less than the minimum SAT even though I took it almost 2 years ago and have a good record otherwise? I just don’t want to get my hopes up if I have no chance!
Thanks!!

Also, I’m aware that Ireland is not in the UK but this seemed like the best subtopic to put this thread in! Sorry!

Can you afford the international tuition at Trinity? Little or no financial aid for internationals there.

They will likely be more interested in your college transcript that your high school transcript if you are applying as a US college transfer. What GPA gets you through the door will depend a lot on what you are anticipating studying. Contact the international admissions office I am sure they will be happy to assist you. Good luck.

@TomSrOfBoston The price for me to attend Trinity would be almost exactly the same as what I am currently paying for college here so that’s not a big issue!

It will probably mean a 5th year- exceptionally unlikely that you would get advanced standing, and Trinity is 4 years (UCD is 3 for most courses, though…)

@collegemom3717 That’s what I figured. I’m planning to take next semester off to work and earn money to pay for college anyway, but that means, unfortunately, this semester was kind of a waste of money. Oh well, too late now! It will still be a good learning experience I suppose.

Did you get accepted?
