Hi! I’ve read many posts already about UMDCP and how people stacked up with their GPs, SATs, EC’s, but i just wanted to know what you guys think about my chances, because I’m not too sure.
I’m a HS senior in MD, and my school isn’t all that great, as in academics, it’s in Washington county.
My weighted GPA is a 3.29 and my CR+M SAT score now is a 1200, but I’m taking it again in October and aiming for a 1320+
I have a lot of extra curriculars, I’m in many clubs at school, I’m the president of my class; i volunteer often with the school, and i also volunteer a lot at the local Humane society. And i believe that i will be getting very strong recommendations from my teachers that are writing them for me.
Yes, i know, my GPA is quite low, but i don’t want to lose hope, and it’s just that I’ve heard so many things about how random UMDCP is with its admissions. For example, my older brother who graduated in 2012, from the same school, was salutatorian, 4.5 GPA, 1390 CR+M, and president of his class, sga, and National honor society, and he was basically involved with anything school related. Yet he was waitlisted, while other kids in his class with far lower GPAs and SAT scores were admitted. And i have heard quite a few stories about how students with very good academics, and active with the school and cultre, are denied by UMDCP. I asked my school’s college counselor about it and he said by now he doesnt even know what UMDCP is doing as in how they admit kids, because last year a student from my school got in with a 3.0 GPA and 9xx CR+M SAT score. So i am not sure how it works, admissions, at least.
But something about me, is that in my hometown i started a page online that had to do with cats, and it was just for fun, and over time it became very popular and accumulated over 1000 followers. And with my page i created apparel that people would buy and profit from the apparel was donated to the humane society to be used to sponsor Spaying and neutering for cats there. My counselor told me that that is very unique thing about me and that that would be a very strong point in my essay that i could write about, because it is philanthropy, young entrepreneurship , business managment, etc. I just wanted to add that.
So i was just wondering, what to expect, what to think, becuase right now im not sure. Besides just trying to raise my SAT score as high as possible by october 3rd (my last SAT for UMDCP’s priority deadline) what else can i do?
I would really appreciate some advice/feedback/assistance.
