Admission with low SAT score

I'm also a minority (black female) and I got a likely letter (or at least I think it was- it read "you will be offered admission into Cornell"- go figure). My SAT scores were "low" - math 650, writing 640, CR 630, math subjectI 660, chem subject 660. I had a 3.77 GPA. I also had alot of strong extracurriculars, teacher recs, and I wrote good essays (in my mind). But who knows - maybe Cornell liked the idea of a black female bioengineer or maybe my application really stood out.

All of this is to say, go for it. I def. thought I had no chance, but you never know what they'll think!

If your ACT is much higher than SAT will they really weight the SAT?

I got in ED to CAS with pretty low SAT scores. I only took it twice. The first time, I got an 1840 (cr 630, ma 590, wr 620), the second time I got a 1990 (660 ma, 690 cr, 640 wr). Not a huge improvement, but still better. Also, I only submitted one SAT II score (690 history) because I decided late to apply ED to Cornell, and didn't plan far ahead enough to take at least 2 SAT IIs. I took another 3 SAT IIs that I submitted after I was accepted, but they were really low (don't remember the exact scores. I think one was a 690 in literature, and the other two were around 630s in biology and math 2). I kind've feel like I cheated Cornell by being accepted and then getting crappy SAT II scores.

johnnyhoward3 i think you might be okay. i got in early with similar stats.

i know a international student with 1600 SAT out of 2400 who got into cornell (needed lots of financial aid)

then again, she applied to AAP for fine arts, and was absolutely incredible at art and had a very very strong portfolio

Is it someone at CC? That sounds VERY similar to my situation. Except I am applying for Architecture.

nope. it was a girl from my art school

One of the reasons I love Cornell is that they have a good diversity in SAT scores. Though high SAT scores are nice, it's good to know that this top-level school does not place way too much emphasis on just one exam.

good to know. Do any of you believe that theory they're coming up with that the latter the time they submitted your acount the most likely you were rejected?

berryb08: did you write SAT 2 ?

What? What do you mean if I wrote SAT 2?

My submission time was 2:45ish, which probably means I was rejected, right?

I dont think people should start saying that 2pm ish people are rejected, just wait for a few more days.

berry, i am positive that people have gotten in with 1600s. now, they didnt get in because of the admissions sympathy, their application stood out in one way or the other... perhaps a kid from the ghetto who doesnt own a computer,etc.... or perhap a complete genius in math who doesnt score high in the other parts of the SAT... there are a lot of variables, if you made your self stand out as an individual you should do fine.

to berry: I'm asking if you wrote any SAT subject tests?

Ha. I have a feeling avr25 doesn't live in America.

Over here, we don't "write" tests - we "take" them.

Ohh sorry I didnt understand your use of the word. Yes I took three: Math lev.1, Spanish, and Biology E. I only did really well in Spanish though.

wow , im also an international applying for architecture and on top of that my SAT 1 score is low, lets just say below 2000

Same here, what was the time they put in your submission of app. Want to know if there is a correlation with school applied to.

no need to get mean panic........yes i am international.....
