Is UIUC more number-driven since it's a large school like PSU?

So much so that they use a computer to weed out applicants not meeting their test, class rank, and GPA criteria.

They also use the computer to autoaccept people if the person meets certain stats (vary by college).

haha i'm such a pessimist

Are you guys playing around like many CCer's on here do or are you guys serious? What do you think the minimum GPA/SAT someone from OOS need to get inorder to stay in the game and not let the computer weed them out? Please provide a reasonable estimate.

I've never heard of the low stats denial thing until today, but I would say anything in the 25%-75% range would be competitive (as already mentioned on here, OOS students are considered identically in admissions). I would say the denial stats are probably pretty low (for "top" college standards). It would also vary by college, i.e. Engineering harder than LAS. Here's a link to info about info for last years accepted class. http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/future/freshmen/requirements.html

Where is their application? I can't seem to find it on their website.

Their new site is a little less straightforward, but http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/future/freshmen/app_info.html is the app. Unfortunately, the deadline has passed for this year, unless you are applying into: Art foundation, Dance, or Theatre.

No one is "fooling around", UIUC uses a computer for many applicants. It is their way of managing an otherwise cumbersome number of applications. Those who clearly exceed requirements are often let in immediately, and those who clearly fail to meet them are denied. Grey area applicants are often held to be compared with a larger pool of applications.

Thus, UIUC rates tests, GPA, and Classrank as their top tier of admissions criteria. In order to provide you with a reasonable estimate you would have had to state your major as well as whether you are a freshman or transfer student, as requirements are quite different. I will assume you are interested in freshman stats. From what I have seen, ACT's range anywhere from 23 or 24 all the way up to the thirties, so get 27-30 for a sense of safety. Get a 22 and below on the ACT and you will most likely be out, get a 29 and up and you will probably be in, anywhere in the middle and you will be competitive. Class rank: they like top 10% i believe but dont quote me on that (it's been 3 years since i applied as a freshman, i dont quite remember). GPA's probably range all over the place.

To conclude, requirements are completely dependent on what you wish to study. Agricultural and Consumer Education Sciences will be easiest to get into. Education, Pre Communications, Aviation, LAS, etc will fit somewhere in the middle. And finally, Engineering and a few other majors will have the highest requirements.

I am applying next year majoring in mathematics so LAS. I don't really know much about the ACT, so can you tell me the SAT score I need in order to be considered in?

Unfortunately I know nothing about the SAT. Strange, i know, but Illinois doesn't require we take it. But, if you look back at my post and then check this out, you should be able to compare the ACT scores i listed with SAT scores: http://www.collegeboard.com/sat/cbsenior/html/stat00f.html

I think LAS is one of the largest colleges on the campus, and its standards are towards the middle of the spectrum. So probably a middle range of 25-29 for ACT?

I'd be able to tell you transfer student stats with 100% accuracy, incomming freshman will probably know more of the specifics for what you are asking.

If you looked at one of my links, LAS's 25%-75% range for SAT scores is 1200 - 1390 and for class rank 81% - 95%.

Wow that is high. I will just aim for a 1350 and hope for the best. BTW, how did you guys know that the computer accepts/rejects some people based on numbers? Did adcom say this to your face?

Well, I was auto-admitted into engineering. I had a 32 on ACT (it is equivalent to around 1420 on SAT), with 3.98 UW GPA, and valedictorian. I was accepted the day they received my transcript. People within their standards get sent to the admissions people, and if they are admitted, I believe it says admit-college reviewed (or something similar) while mine just said admit.

The fact that they have a decisions status called "Deferred: MANUAL Review" sort of hints at the fact that there is an alternative to having an actual person review your application.

Best of luck to you!

Ahhh.. that explains a lot. Hmm

With the new SAT, I'd say somewhere around 2050 and you should be safe. I sent UIUC my old SAT scores and I think I had somewhere around a 2060 and I was auto-admit. They accepted me as soon as they got my transcript too.

2050 is pretty high. Has anyone on here got auto-admit with a lower SAT score? If so, please post.

720 math, 640 reading, 650 writing and didn't get auto admit, thats 2010 i think. my hs doesnt rank and my grades suck so i dont know why they would auto admit me though.... i got in anyways.

lil_killer- I really don't think you have to worry and that's being honest. I know someone who got a 19 on her ACT and got into UIUC.
