Admission

If you got into Merced and UCR does that guarentee an admission into UCR? People tell me not to worry about it, but how often does it happen where you get into UCM and UCR but not UCSC. Do you know many people?

The admissions points formula on the UCSC site seems to be harsher than the one on the UCD site.

UCSC Admissions - Information for Freshman Applicants Not Offered Admission

For example

3. Courses Completed/Planned - if total UC-approved courses is between 48 and 53 semesters, award 100 points; if total UC-approved courses is 54 semesters or greater, award 200 points.
I don't come anywhere near 48. For UCSD and UCD it's only 38-39 semesters and you get the extra points.

4. Honors Courses - if senior-year honors courses are 8 semesters, award 100 points; if senior-year honors courses are 9 or greater, award 200 points.
So you have to be in 4 APs or more. I'm in 4 APs this year and it's killing me, and I get the pity of pretty much every teacher I meet. Sure I know a few people who will have 10 semesters. But why does UCSC have harshers codes than higher UCs?

6. Quality of Senior Year Program of Study - if total UC-approved, senior-year courses is 12 or 13 semesters, award 100 points; if total UC-approved, senior-year courses is 14 semesters or greater, award 200 points.

Something like having 7 classes your senior year only gets you 200 points in a 10,000 point scale.

Based on what you're saying, I'm wondering if it isn't because there was a much higher yield for 2007 fall than expected.

Don't worry about it -- my acceptances were all over the place. I got into UCSC BEFORE getting into UCR and I got into UCI, but not Davis (which had the same problem in 2006 that UCSC had this year -- so their acceptances went WAAAY down!). I was completely shocked that I didn't get into Davis and completely shocked that I got into Irvine and Berkeley. Yep, Davis turned me down and Irvine and Berkeley accepted me.

Any UC is cool. Visit all the ones you've been accepted to and you'll know what's right for you.
