Admission

Hello, i am currently a sophmore in high school. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are for getting into Cornell.

Here is my profile:

I transferred to a different school this year. I currently go to a private school that does not offer any ap or honor classes. It’s a Jewish high school, and its one of the best private schools in my state. I am also currently taking 7 Jewish classes, and i have a 4.00. The grading system at my school is different from my old school. A 4.00 is 100, and 3.9 is 99-98 percent. At my old school anything above a 90 was considered a 4.00. It is harder to get good grades at my school.

I will try to be as nice as possible before some of the others start chiming in:)

Come back here in one and 1/2 years. Your junior year is the most important and without those grades and any test scores, it's impossible for us to make any kind of assessment of your chances.

BTW: I will say one thing: while you have a lot of activity, you lack depth in your extracirriculars. Tennis team one year, swim team the next, and basketball team the next. Reeks of resume padding. But your EC's should be fine nonetheless. Keep the grades up and good luck.

chime: WHAT THE ---- ARE YOU DOING HERE YOU ARE SO YOUNG ;)

uh yeah, come back as a second semester junior, you have no need to worry about college now. maybe a dream school or two that you can idealize in your head every month or so, but yeah, relax.

Norcal guy is right on. Keep the grades good. Focus your ECs on a passion instead of dabbling in everything. For example, tennis->swim->soccer isolated in adjacent years is random. School band, mentoring young students on your instrument, and starting a jazz combo for your job all tie together nicely. 3 different areas: EC, community service, leadership/job; however they're all focused on one subject. (that was me, in case you didn't guess so.) Saying you like sports is kind of...general. Take one or two things you love and pursue them to the utmost. There is no EC cornell likes more than another, they just want to see you love it and work hard at it

good luck, and come back and post in like 9 months and we'll be glad to help you. we understand your concern and enthusiasm, but for now, enjoy yourself w/o worrying about college! g'luck! :D
