admissions appeal due to academic suspension

I was suspended from my university due to my GPA not meeting the requirements. I decided I want to continue my education at the local community college but they won’t admit me without an appeal. Could anyone take a look at this and tell me where it needs work?

Dear Appeals Committee,
I am writing to appeal my admission status at xxx Community College due to academic suspension at University. Throughout my high school career I took college classes and did very well in them. I thought I was completely prepared for university, but I didn’t take into account all of the changes I would be experiencing such as moving away from my family and living in the dorms. There are a few outside factors that I could blame my failure on such as having a difficult roommate and watching my sister struggle with a drug addiction, but I am fully aware that I am completely at fault. I haven’t declared a major yet, but everyone around me has everything planned out. Seeing everyone know exactly what they wanted made my motivation deteriorate greatly, and I stopped going to classes regularly. Once I fell behind in my classes I knew I needed help in order to catch up, but I was too embarrassed to reach out to any of my professors or take advantage of the services available to me on campus. I didn’t take this year as seriously as I should have and I am dealing with the consequences of that now.
I accept full responsibility for the situation I have put myself in, but since learning of my suspension I have already made some changes. I am very happy with my living situation and I have a job that has really helped me work on my time management skills. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I want to do in the future and how to get back on track with my education. Attending every class is important and my professors are there to help me when I need it. I plan on taking time to study every day and keeping away from distractions. I really do love learning and I am confident that I have what it takes to get back to where I need to be. The best thing for me would be to continue taking classes this fall rather than taking a semester off, and I think that Community College is the best place for me to do that. Despite what my GPA from the 2016-2017 school year shows, I am a good student and I hope you give me the chance to prove it. Thank you for considering this appeal.
