Admissions Appeal to CSULB

I was finally able to complete the requirements for transfer admission to CSU Long Beach and was denied in the first round by a computer system due to my GPA. I wrote an appeal letter based on the fact that 2 months after I moved to Long Beach, my mom had an aneurysm and has had multiple brain surgeries for over a year. She is also 350 miles away from me in Northern California and it was hard for me to get the best grades, but I still met all the requirements as of last semester. Has anyone ever filed an appeal and heard any type of response?

Update, I sent an appeal letter with documentation and it was delivered yesterday and last night my denied admission decision was retracted and I received an email asking for all of my official transcripts with a deadline in 14 days.

@ErdnaYar I am glad CSULB retracted the denial. Now you have the opportunity to submit official transcripts and explain your situation.

I hope your mom is doing well. Sorry you and your family had to go through such a tough time.

Fingers crossed you’ll hear good news from CSULB.

@ErdnaYar Hi! I I am also applying to CSULB and I’m hoping if you can help me with my problem.

I got an email saying that “Thank you for applying to California State University, Long Beach. As previously communicated, our offer of admission was subject to verification of the information you reported in the Supplemental Application. Based on official information you submitted, we were unable to confirm what you reported and consequently your offer of admission has been withdrawn…”

I know that my application was denied but I can’t tell why. Did I miss anything in my supplemental application? The supplication application and my transcript doesn’t match? The only reason I could think of is that when csulb requested for my official transcript, I was still trying to crash my required classes.

Lastly, how did you write your appeal letter?

@AnJoVo‌

Oops, completely wrote a block of text without realizing you sent in your transcripts. That’s strange though. If they offered you admission initially because of what your supplemental applications said, then your transcript should provide the same thing. Did you ever find out if they received your transcripts or if it was marked off your list?

One of the schools that I applied to had offered me admission, but their office was behind on processing transcripts. Because they hadn’t gotten to my documents, they put my admission on hold until my GPA and that good stuff was confirmed.

I think the best way you can verify the issue is by contacting the admissions office. I would do it ASAP, so you can correct the situation. Good luck!

@anjovo Well, I was denied based on the fact that CSULB is super competitive and my GPA was not as high as other applicants. I wrote my appeal on the basis that I had performed poorly in my Spring 2014 semester because of my mom’s brain aneurysms. I wrote a letter stating all the steps I had taken to gain admission to CSULB and explaining what my family has been going through. I attached documentation of my moms hospital bills and sent it in the mail to the Admissions Appeal dept. I agree with DasherCat, you should call to see which part of your transcripts did not match your supplemental application. If it turns out that it was because you reported requires courses as “In Progress” on your supplemental application, but the classes were not on your transcripts yet, you should write your letter based on that. Explain why the courses weren’t on your transcripts yet and send in updated SEALED OFFICIAL transcripts along with your letter showing the courses as in progress. Hopefully this helps and good luck!

BTW this process takes FOREVER, I’m still waiting for decision because they haven’t processed my transcripts that I dropped off 2 weeks ago in person.

@ErndaYar Thanks. I already contacted them about it.It was about the chem class that I needed. I am pretty sure I was still trying to crash the chem class when the transcripts were sent to them.

@anjovo Well if you are sending an appeal, good luck and let me know how it goes for you!

and I am admitted!

Congratulations and way to go!!!

I am in as well! Super happy.
