Interviews play a major role in Oxbridge admissions precisely because there are “hundreds of applicants” with top AP or A-level scores. Virtually all UK candidates who are deemed to have a competitive application are invited for interviews at their college of choice. The University of Oxford also interviews overseas applicants in select dates at one of its [international interview centers](http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate_courses/international_students/international_interview_dates/index.html).

Sometimes, when an overseas applicant cannot be interviewed, he/she may be asked to submit a sample of written work or take a (written) admission test instead.
