Admissions at Universities at Foreign English-Speaking Countries

I’m at AUP right now. I’ve known numerous kids who have continued their graduate studies at Harvard, the London School of Economics, Sciences Po (basically the French Ivy). I know your post is sort of old now, but if you still have any more questions, feel free to hit me up.

Are you serious? Oxford doesn’t look at GPA at all?

I had 800/780/750 on SAT and 800/750/720 on SAT subject tests and five 5s on APs… but my HS GPA was only 3.6

Would this have made me a really competitive applicant?

ril5384, I saw that you said you are (or were) at American University in Paris? Would you recommend it and American University in Rome? You think it opens up enough opportunities after graduation (like great grad schools or great jobs)?
Thanks!!

Hey Daisy,

Not sure if ril5384 is still on CollegeConfidential, I am assuming she graduated by now. I can’t speak for AUR, but I currently work in Admissions at The American University of Paris and am an alumn of AUP, so if you have any questions feel free to give me a shout.

With regard to grad schools and great jobs, it’s really up to the student. If you work hard and do well, you can go anywhere with an AUP degree. We have plenty of students who continue on to do graduate and post-graduate studies at the top universities in the world, Harvard, Oxford, etc. Those are always the students that work hard and start building their career path while studying by getting involved in their areas of interest through conferences, networking, and internships.

Those students who chose to enter the working world directly instead of continuing on to gradschool join multinational companies like Google or IBM or go work for consulting companies like Ogilvy. Also, a large number of AUP graduates go into the non-profit sector and do humanitarian and human rights work all over the world.

Ultimately, it all depends on how much you are willing to invest yourself. The students that work hard and pursue their goals are the ones that do well after school.

If you have any questions about AUP, don’t hesitate to give me a shout!

Best,
Sebastian
