admissions by geographic region?

I hear from most people that competition to get in one of the GU schools is between you and people in your geographical area. I know that an admissions factor is whether or not your state is under-represented, but what if you are just from a mainstreamed state? Are we evaluated by region, or are applicants evaluated all together regardless of geographical area?

For example, I am from Maine. If they evaluated me by geographical area would it just be with New England (ME, NH, MA, VT, CT, RI)? Or the whole Northeast (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, and PA)?

That is an interesting question. I'm from Massachusetts, and I'd like to know too.

I think this thought come from the fact that gu's admission's officers are split by region. I would guess that it is based on your rep's region, which is pretty easy to find out.
Mine is just california and puerto rico.

i really hope this is true... for once it might be good to be from appalachia haha

I hope so too... from Arizona! I wonder if I'd be grouped with California though :-</p>

is my representative just my interviewer? How do I find out who my representative is and what region he/she represents

o no not your interviewer,
at Georgetown your app is first read by your regional rep and then sent to a committe which reads for each one of the schools. I know who my rep is because I went to so many Georgetown events in the area and he introduced himself as such. I even adressed my app to him so it wouldn't have to go to the normal filing, but I am not sure how you find out otherwise.

As I have told myself numerous times before in this process...

thank GOD I'm from Oregon.

I'm from New Mexico and the rates of admission for top schools are actually lower here. So I'm not really too optimistic.

see I don't really know where I stand in the admissions process when coming from Maine. We are one of the most rural states in the country, yet we are in New England, which is a big feeder for ivy league schools. I don't know how an admissions officer would take that.

Georgetown likes to try to get at least some people from every state, and I given my limited knowledge of Maine, I would say it would actually serve as a sort of advantage to be from there. Given the massive amounts of people from New Jersey here though, I wouldn't say it's too much of a factor. Although it may help you to be from Maine (they really like to be able to brag about having students from every state, this year they were only missing Idaho) it definitely won't hurt you to be from New England.

I'm from Illinois...I guess it's not a good thing or a bad thing. I'm guessing I'm grouped with at least WI, MI, IA, IN...Maybe Missouri and Minnesota.

God knows who I'm grouped with... cause im applying from Virginia... but im not american... and am only now getting a green card... does anyone know how that affects me?

saeraxD me too. do you know how many applicants from illinois Georgetown receives? or the region for that matter?

Not sure how many applicants from IL, but there is info on the website about how many are accepted from the midwest and other regions.

There are a handful applying to GU from my school this year. Which is fairly surprising; no one from my school has attended GU in the past...for God knows how long.

What about an applicant from Mississippi?

The last time anyone applied and got into Georgetown at my school was 5 years ago. Now I think there are at least 4 kids applying just this year.

I don't being from NY would help at all.

Yay for South Dakota! This is the only benefit that comes from living in this state.

sp1234 are you from MS? ME TOO!

unfortunately, its not going to help us this year because there are like eight-ten people from my school applying. i think i know where you go to school, too. PM me!

would oklahoma help? Does georgetown superscore the sat?
