I just heard that someone from my high school got a call from admissions yesterday to tell her that she was accepted. Not an outstanding student, not an athlete.

What's THAT all about??? Anyone else hear the same thing?

University of Delaware is a good university but not like ivies, the acceptance rate is 53% according to Collegeboard.

What does their acceptance rate have to do with anything? It’s still unusual for them to call a student.

I think it is fairly commonplace for some colleges to contact students via phone after the applicant has received a formal acceptance. It happened to my S when he was accepted to Emory Univ. I think having a professor or any member of the administration contact an applicant ( informing him of his acceptance ) before all decisions are released is most unusual if not inexplicable, at least IMO.

Maybe certain departments do that based on the major.

The same thing happened last year if you go back to March 2009 a thread called phone calls. Some departments seem to contact students others don’t.

Son just received a call from someone in the UDel Business School telling him he was accepted and that he will be receiving a packet next week.

yeah some departments do that, but even those departments don’t call EVERY student who was accepted into it. i don’t even think it’s like top applicants. i heard it was random. idk but i’m annoyed, i applied for public policy which is a small school so i was hoping to maybe receive a phone call

mamajay, did he say thanks but no thanks, since you said elsewhere that he’s decided to go elsewhere?

Actually my son was diplomatic and said that he was still deciding (he was asked). When we first started looking at colleges UDel was definitely one of his top choices and if not for financial constraints he would probably attend. The person on the phone did not mention any merit so until we get the packet, he won’t definitively say no. In the meantime, Rutgers offered him a free ride (We are in NJ), so that is tough to turn down.

I got a packet and then a week later a phone call. Depending on how far away you are from the school, I assume the packet was sent out before the phone call was made and the person just had not recieved their letter yet.

More likely it depends on how prompt the person assigned to make the call is (or whether you get it at all).

I think away2school meant that the student is not that good and should be specially treated. In other words, away2school is kind of jealous about it.

I was called for my acceptance to the nursing program
