Admissions Criteria for Transfer Students?

Hey Everyone!

I'm hoping to transfer Fall 2015, but I was looking at the Umich website of course credit equivalencies and my community college isn't on there. Also when I contacted admissions they said that after you're admitted then they will be able to see if your courses transfer. So what do they base their decision on? All grades? What happens if some courses don't transfer? Seems odd to me...

Thanks for your help!

They will evaluate the courses and determine if there’s a similar course offered at Michigan, and if there is, it will transfer as that course (with a T for a grade). If there isn’t, it will transfer as ‘departmental’ credit, which just means you get the credit hours, but no actual course equivalency. If the course doesn’t transfer at all then you lose those credit hours.

Thanks for the quick reply! Is this done during the application review, or after the admission?

It should be done automatically after admission as they already have your transcripts from when you applied.
