Hi All.
My S applied in early September and his application is officially complete. Can any current students or parents share their experiences last year in terms of how close to the EA reply date they received a decision last year? Did you hear by email? Hoping for a very Merry Christmas!!

My son applied early action and was notified around Dec. 15 or so, I believe. He actually got a phone call from the regional admissions person that he had come to know through visits and interview. The letter came a day or two after the phone call.

He is a freshman at SMU now, and is doing well and is happy there.

Thanks bubble mom! I have high hopes of receiving similar news in December for my son too! Best of luck to your son for a continued great experience at SMU!

Hi Nova88, if everything is in then you should hear back in mid-December. Good luck and hope to see you all at an admitted student event in the spring!

Last year there was some confusion as to the notification date. Online it said by December 15th, but when the 15th came and went they changed it to the end of December. At least last year, notifications were by mail. My daughter received her acceptance by mail on Mon. December 20th (we live in the mid-Atlantic area). I know some kids who live closer to Dallas heard a couple of days sooner. My daughter couldn’t be happier with her choice of SMU. Good luck!

so many parents of happy SMU first years on this thread. love to see it!

Daughter’s EA application is complete, and she has already been officially “artistically” accepted at the Meadows School through an audition on 10/22. She is delighted!

Does anyone know if the artistic acceptance in any way facilitates eventual academic acceptance, or are the two processes completely blind to one another?

It’s a dual admissions process that are separate. That said, the performing arts half is more selective statistically-speaking than the university as a whole

Thanks for the feedback, John. We were both very impressed with Meadows, and the school as a whole. My daughter is a solid student, so hopefully she’ll get good news from the academic side of admissions as well!

My D is at Meadows (Dance) and is very (!!!) happy with the program. Loves Meadows and the campus. Good luck to you D.

Should we read anything into the fact that we haven’t heard from our admissions counselor since her visit to our HS? S is a legacy.

golfer6 - Hi. My son interviewed with Abbi last year at SMU’s campus over the summer and then a few months later he met with Abbi again when she came to visit NJ. We didn’t hear from her after that until he got accepted. I believe that is normal. I’m sure they are so busy looking over all the applications right now. You should hear soon especially if you applied EA. We heard around December 21st last year.

My son is also very happy at SMU. We both thought SMU was a perfect fit for him and it turned out so much better than we even thought which is wonderful. I’m a very happy mom!

If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. You can send me a private message too. Good luck everyone!

Phoned admissions this AM and got a person who was having a bad hair day. He said notification will be by month end (thanks a lot!). Already admitted to Virginia Tech (engineering), Purdue (CS/software engineering). NC State (engineering) was my safety and I’ll hear by 7:00PM Thursday. Don’t understand the hold up with SMU. I think the reason for the delay is that they extended EA to 11/7 for some unknown reason.

Pinehurst2. I believe SMU extended their EA deadline due to the bad snowstorm in the Northeast, which happened in October. I live in New Jersey and the power was out for over a week for a lot of us up here. So that makes sense why they pushed out the date. In the scheme of things, it really isn’t that much longer. About 8 more days! However, be happy you applied EA because you’ll hear by year end and before most of the others! Good luck!

Our high school college counselor said she heard they are mailing the decisions by the end of next week. No need to watch the mailbox for a while.

I don’t know the exact mail date, but I have been told that everyone should have their decision by the end of the month so that would make sense.

Thanks, johnangle. Do you know how the decisions are sent to those living outside the U.S.? Will there be any way to check online? It takes us two weeks to get mail from the U.S.

@pamayawaa International packages will be sent via UPS so you should receive them within 3-4 days.

Great! Thank you for responding.

I heard the first mailing of decisions was mailed out yesterday and the last mailing will be on the 23rd. Have no idea if they are mailed out geographically, alphabetically or some other way. If it’s good news, and it comes before Christmas, it will be a great Christmas present!
