Admissions Decision

Two weeks away...
does anyone know when the letters are going to be released? i assume there is no e-mail notification. I can't really get a handle on when exactly we will hear or is it too soon to tell? many schools are releasing decisions electronically next week

all the people who did questbridge heard back today. nobody ranked pomona but only 1 our of about 11 got matched with a school. it was really heartbreaking :,( i don’t know if i can handle it. as for electronic notifications, i think that probably goes for the schools that have portals and stuff.

Hi Tamtastic, could you please explain what you mean by, “nobody ranked pomona but only 1 out of about 11 got matched with a school”? And what do you mean electronic notifications goes for schools that have “portals and stuff”? I’d appreciate the help! please and thank you

Hi, again. Okay so there is this scholarship called “QuestBridge”. It is for low-income students that want to go to college and you go through two rounds. First you apply and you get to be a finalist which is when you get to “rank schools”. There are many schools that are Questbridge partners including Pomona. All these schools are generally prestigious and nationally ranked. You get to rank up to eight schools and QuestBridge forwards your application to them and if they pick you, you get in full ride with study abroad. Many schools can pick you, but you will only be notified about your top choice. OR you may not get it all. That’s what I meant by 1/11 because 11 kids in my grade were QB finalists, but they did not get matched with a school (a VERY small percentage actually does). I decided not to do it only because I thought doing Early Decision would be less competitive since Pomona already is 100% need-based in financial aid. What I didn’t know was that ED apps would be increasing by 33% -_-

By portals, I was referring to the fact that a lot of schools have portals in which they give you a username and password so you can check your admission status, etc. They will also use this to notify you if they need any additional paperwork from you. You usually get this portal after you apply. I have a portal for the CSUs I applied to that I have to check regularly to see the status of my application. POMONA, however, does not use this system. Confusing because I actually applied to Cal Poly Pomona, too

Hope that was helpful!

If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to answer. My school is very supportive through the college application process and we have a class that teaches us about all of the confusing things about applying to college.

You will receive paper notification - acceptances arrive in large white envelopes via priority mail and declines get mailed through regular snail mail. In the past, i.e., during Bruce Poch’s tenure, the admissions office aimed to get acceptances into the mail as early as possible, sometimes arriving two to three days before the projected notification date of December 15, depending upon geographic location. Only international applicants receive e-mail notification followed by a paper version.

Good luck!

“Only international applicants receive e-mail notification followed by a paper version.”

YES. International student here, and was soooo concerned I wouldn’t get my notification until late in the (Dec) 20s… Thanks for this.

in the past, lots of CA students received acceptances by the 13th and east coasters either the 14/15.

We’re on the East Coast and D got her acceptance on the 13th.

This is interesting. I just discovered that Scripps has a portal! I wonder why Pomona doesn’t!

Pomona used to… but I’ve heard that it’s only for RD students. Or at least that’s what I read a while back.

Perhaps that will change with the new VP/Dean, but I recall Bruce Poch was a firm believer in delayed gratification, i.e., paper notification. After all, how often does one get snail mail nowadays? Plus, it’s great to have something tangible to save!

@Littlemother: we saved our envelope too!!! :)
