If reputation matters, it’s really hard to beat the University of Michigan, especially if you plan on grad school or will take your degree outside of Cali.

2girlz, can you go back onto the common app and make sure she checked the right box for EA? I have heard of situations where the kid did the app, checked the wrong box and didn’t apply EA like they intended!

I am so worried about SCU. MY act scores are so low. I mentioned alumni on the
app though. I have good GPA and extracirculars. Do I have a chance?
Also, does legacy help ? 10 people in my family went to SCU

Really? 10 relatives that you were able to list in the given slots on the CommonApp?

I think legacy can only take you so far - like if you were borderline being accepted. It’s like no school would take a Manning brother for a full ride on their football team without looking at their stats and watching him play at least once. Sure, he carries the name, but that certainly gets him looked at, not out right accepted on an athletic scholarship. I know it’s a far stretch with that example, but I hope you kinda get the point.

I think what SCU will look at a lot more in terms of alumni association is donation contributions to the school. Someone donate a big chunk of cash to SCU from your family recently? It’s unfortunate, but in my research it seems like SCU is a little stiff on the dough and looks more at how money flows than on actual potential contributions to the community from it’s prospective students. I think it says something when tuition is a mere $1,000 less in comparison to Stanford’s. But I guarantee you SCU is no Stanford. And Stanford even gives more aid to really attract and keep the good students.

Haha you are so literal. I meant a lot Of people from my family have gone there and went there. More than 20. I am hoping I get in based on all my stats.

Best of luck for SCU as well.

Thank you… You too… If you applied

I am wondering. What do they look at most? Do I have a chance…
Ahhh

Does anyone know when RD decisions were sent out last year?

If I get in I will tell you what they look at most.

My son applied and was accepted RD last year (he’s now at Gonzaga). It was well into March before he was notified, as the price of our plane tickets to travel to the April admitted student day kept going up the longer we had to wait.

@coldharbour
I applied reg decision too hahahah.

My D applied as a Junior Transfer Student and we are still waiting for her decision letter. Has anyone who is a transfer student received their decision letter yet? My D applied on January 7th, the first day to apply for transfer.

@luckypennie
I applied as a transfer as well and have not heard back yet. I submitted my application the first week of February. I’m so anxious! SCU is my first choice. Good luck to your daughter!

SCU only recently went to a modified “rolling admissions” for transfer students. I have not heard any information if this has lead to transfer students hearing earlier than before.

My daughter transferred to SCU two years ago, right before they switched to this wider window for transfer application. When she applied, transfer students found out in mid-to-late May, apparently in batches spread out over several weeks.

I really don’t understand how some people with 3.9 GPA’s got deferred… My friend applied early with a 3.2 GPA and got accepted…

Santa Clara’s one of my top schools so hopefully I get in!! :)

Red… it’s never just about the GPA at school’s with more holistic admissions. Not saying that this is the case, but if a 3.9 student wasn’t very invested in school life, what do they bring to the college? If a 3.2 is a leader in the school, taking the hardest curriculum etc, they bring more to the campus. And too… a slew of EC’s never looks as good as a few done with deep and long lasting passion. Travel abroad to build houses in Mexico or some other tropical location three times is not nearly as impressive as working at a homeless shelter in your own town for three years running. AND a 3.4 GPA with a 34 ACT is better than a 3.9 GPA with a 1800 SAT.

Do you guys think being all the way from Georgia will help me get admitted? I mean, I doubt all that many people from Ga apply and I go to a Catholic school.

I mean, my stats are decent but I don’t have a 3.9 like some of the rejectees. Modadunn: I hope you are right about the importance placed on standardized tests, that would sure help my case.

While there will always be people who feel they were an exception (and rejected or accepted for specific -and singular- reasons), I’ve learned over three kids and 10 years to take schools at their word. But knowing this has never made the wait any more patient! :)

My son just received his admission envelope today. We live in bay area and he is a RD. We are happy and waiting for the financial package now. Good luck to others.

Received my aceptance into College of Engineering, also in Bay Area
