Admissions Decisions Class of 2020

@Nestle99
I received acceptance letter through regular mail 2-3weeks after being admitted(Taiwan) but I wrote to them and they attached a pdf file to the email.

Does anyone receive a letter from the college that admitted you guys?
I was admitted on Jan 9 but I have only received the accpetance package so far.

Yes, I got a letter directly from the Department of Engineering with some basic info. This came a few weeks ago and I received my acceptance back on December 11th.

@jakeybake Thanks
I just received scholarship letter(Jan 28) so maybe I should write an email to them

I applied to the college of engineering 11/20 and it still says evaluation online. Should I be worried? I have a 3.52 weighted Gpa, 31 act, 1310 2 part sat, 4 years of foreign language, numerous ap classes through the years and 4 years of high school volleyball. Seeing everyone else on here getting their decisions is making me a little nervous.

Was there possibly a separate form I missed? I know penn state had another form I had to print out for my guidance counselor

@brianb4498 an admissions rep said that it’s extremely hard to get into engineering if you applied after nov. 1

@brianb4498 According to the admissions page, you really should have had all application info in by 11/1 to be considered for engineering. I think it is now on a “space available” basis.

It was true last year that engineering filled up their class with early admits and even qualified candidates in regular round were put in explorations.

The number of engineering admits paying acceptance fee is 13% lower than the number the same time last year, so I think regular round applicants should fare better.

Anybody that was deferred hear yet? My D was deferred for Neuroscience pre-med option. OOS 3.8/4.56, 1230 SAT (CR+M). National Honor Society, All-academic in basketball, also played Varsity soccer. Tutors, and coaches girls basketball team.

@osuprof, do you have the new numbers on accepted students and those paying acceptance fees for Fall 2016?

@fflmaster

Check out the page 5 of this document:

http://oesar.osu.edu/pdf/admissions/comp&summ_SIS.pdf

It is updated every week. Engineering applications are up 7%, admits up 3% (which means success rate is lower), but acceptances to date are lower by 13% (it is probably because there are more high caliber and/or out-of-state students in the pool, and they have more to choose from).

Great stats! Thanks for posting. Makes me even more proud of my son for his acceptance into the Engineering program!

@osuprof i have to choose between NC state and OSU but 2 factors are a concern for me, could you clear them?

  1. OSU campus is a bit smaller but has almost double enrolment. so it is overcrowded??
  2. I heard about some safety concerns about the campus, are they major threats??

@BeastofEarth,

You should be asking these questions to current customers (students) as opposed to an employee :-).

But seriously, I don't think campus is too small for its enrollment, and I dont think it is unsafe either. You can consider posting on red dit.com (with the blank removed) to get more feedback from current osu students.

@BeastOfEarth I’m still a high school junior but have seen both campuses so I can give my opinion:

  1. Osu has the perfectly set up campus and I didn’t feel like it was to large or two small. For the size of the school, me and my mom both agreed they worked very hard not to make you feel like a number and actually like a person. Also, the campus is nicer than nc states in my opinion.
  2. When visiting, I did notice there were a lot of beggars on High Street(right next to campus). I also was about five seconds away from seeing a person get hit by a car, we only saw them on the ground with people all around. The person was J-walking so it’s all about street smarts.
    Overall, if it were me, I would go wherever is cheaper unless it’s no concern at all.
    These are just my thoughts but I wish you the best of luck in your decision.

ty @pitt2021 and @osuprof

the help is appreciated!!!

I can’t believe I was not accepted into the honors program. They instead accepted me into their far less impressive scholars program (my second choice). Wth? I got a 34 on my ACT, I have a 4.15 GPA, I have extremely impressive extracurriculars. This is just insulting.

@jsmith98 Uh excuse me? The Scholars program is just as impressive as the Honors program. Maybe they saw through your essays and noted this bad attitude. You basically just insulted everyone here who prefers the Scholars program over the Honors program. Please save your self-righteousness. Stats aren’t everything especially when it comes to special programs. Essays are the determining factor for Honors or Scholars. So if you’re mad about it, blame yourself.

Honors is nothing more than a curriculum.
Scholars reiterates experiences through studying abroad, community service, social justice, etc.

If you feel like Scholars is less impressive then you definitely don’t deserve it. Your disappointment doesn’t need to be a justification to insult everyone else.

Well said @Chopinspiano ! My S is thrilled he was accepted last night to the Scholars program. Congratulations to all who did. Excited about all of the opportunities it offers. Now he just has to decide which one he wants. Any info anyone has received on any of them would be much appreciated! Those who look at Scholars as the “consolation prize” maybe should not be part of it…
