Admissions Decisions Class of 2021

Has anybody heard from the college about any admissions activity? Any signs other than the emails about the appication tracker?
Thanks

All I know is that they begin announcing mid-December as the email says.
Is there an application tracker? I haven’t heard anything about that.

Ya there is an application tracker. I received it when I submitted my application.

It appears that decisions usually come out in the first full week of December for EA

My son received his letter mid December last year and Honors acceptance on Christmas Eve via registered mail.

Current student at Cofc here, decisions should be out before December 20th. I have a friend who works in the admissions office. Emails and official letters will be sent out.

@Chopinspiano Thanks for the info. How are things going for you? I recall your username from last year. So, do we wait for the letter, or does the portal tell us anything?

@MACncheez I don’t believe that the portal shows anything. I could be wrong, but I don’t recall it showing the decision. I got my email first before my actual letter (I was in Ohio at the time). Coming to Cofc was the best decision I’ve made. I chose it over Tulane, Wake Forest, full tuition at Ohio State, UofSC honors, and more. Cofc has given me sooo many great opportunities as a freshman. I’m volunteering at a research lab at MUSC next semester! I’m volunteering regularly at local schools and at different places on the weekend thanks to a club called Volunteer Corps and my Honors Engaged project.

The only big issue at Cofc is diversity. It’s lacking in that department but their are organizations and programs on campus that help increase diversity. Minority population at the College has increased dramatically. I think my class has had the biggest minority population so far. There’s programs specifically for minorities like SPECTRA/SCAMP, Black Student Union, Student Ambassadors (anyone can join; it’s for recruiting minorities), Student Diversity Inclusion Council, Collegiate Curls (for natural hair) etc. With that out of the way, Cofc has plenty of clubs/organizations that will fit your interests. If there isn’t one, start it!

It’s funny you mention diversity, @Chopinspiano. That’s probably my biggest concern, especially due to recent events around the country following the election. My daughter is a URM (by CofC/SC standards), so that has become more of as issue, one which will have a large impact on her decision. She may have already decided, I’m not sure. Good luck! Sounds like it was a good decision for you.

This is so helpful!! Thank you so much!

@MACncheez Attending any PWI has its downsides, but I will tell you that a lot of minority students are trying to improve diversity relations and recruitment. They host several college tours specifically directed towards minorities. The largest minority population is African-Americans. I’m not going to lie, but there aren’t many Indians, Asians, Latinos, etc. That is an issue. I’m not going to persuade you to think differently, but as a current student, I’m not seeing much leadership from those groups to target recruitment (although a lot of their ideas are in the process of becoming an actual thing or they’re just starting up). It’s a slow process, but I visited this campus as a freshman in high school and I can tell you without a doubt that diversity has improved significantly. I also didn’t want to attend Cofc for that very reason, but talking to current minority students, seeing the spirit of NPHC Greeks(btw some students are trying to start Greek Life to be inclusive of all ethnicities; some a trying to start Greek Life for Latinos), attending the SPECTRA program, and joining a group chat for Cofc minorities definitely convinced me that this was where I needed to be. Feel free to message me personally if you have any specific questions!

Has anyone received any information about the status of their application?

Nothing here

As it appears on their admissions twitter-- letters will be sent by the end, you should receive them before you receive in email, but none have been sent out yet

is by the end of the week?

No of the month, December for Early Notification

Oh thanks. I thought notifications were to start going out this week. I do understand all will know by end of month.

@Raam1012 Where did you hear they were? All I know is what’s on twitter and I’m so anxious

I really hope they start to get released this week and I am guessing they will because the staff is going to go on break soon. The waiting is killing me!

I didn’t hear anything official. I think I read it somewhere on CC. Also heard that someone heard last year mid December and then got scholarship info on Christmas Eve. I think…just going from memory.
