@redroses18 I just received an email from them saying that they are giving scholarship notifications on a rolling basis until the end of February. Everyone will be notified if they were finalists or not.
Does anyone know when the next batch of decisions will come out? Kind of nervous here.
Does anyone know if you donāt get your first preference of the scholars program if you can totally deny doing scholars altogether?
@osubuckeye24 I had the same question and called the university a few weeks ago. The answer is that you can decline whether you get your first choice are not. You are not bound to the Scholars program.
Should be on the 12th. We are anxiously waiting as well. Anyone knows when we might hear about biomedical science major? It was a separate application.
@Stinamom Last year people who applied for biomedical science were emailed from jan. 9 to the 15. The email was regarding decisions as far as interviews which are given to approximately 45 people. The interview dates they were given were on Tuedays throughout February.
Thank you @Meismeis. My daughter will probably hear from both admissions and Bioscience at about the same time then. I know the interviews are as early as first week of February (they are on Fridays this year according to the website) and I would have to buy a plane ticket if she gets so lucky to be invited.
I hadnāt gotten anything in the mail about College of Engineering yet (odd since I live in Columbus) so I emailed admissions and they told me that I did in fact get into the computer science and engineering program! So if you really want to know about admission to a specific school just ask I guessā¦
I received a letter on January 2 saying I was welcomed to the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences as a pre-major student. Iām majoring in health sciences and will minor in biology. Just to get a sense of the timing, I live in Nevada and:
I was accepted online on 12/15
I received a snail mail acceptance on 12/23
I received a snail mail acceptance into my school 1/2
I check my mailbox everyday so the dates are accurate
I just received an email tonight (1 /3) at 8:19pm pst about my invitation to continue the scholars application process which just consists of submitting a program interest form. Iām super excited and feel as if everything is happening at once. Hopefully I receive good news about the Morrill Scholarship. Fingers crossed!
My son also received the email regarding continuing on in the Scholars application process (accepted 12/15/17). Our older son is in Business Scholars and loves it. More information here: https://honors-scholars.osu.edu/
@oreo32 and @kiwi3466-My daughter received the same email about continuing on in the Scholars application process (accepted 12/15/17). She completed and submitted her program interest form and selected her top 3 preferences and indicated if she was strongly interested, interested or not interested in the others. For anyone who has experience with the Scholars Programā¦
- Do students who get accepted typically get one of his/her top 3 preferences?
- For those who received acceptance into Ohio State during the first batch of decisions in November, did you receive your email about Scholars soon after or did you just receive the email like those students accepted December 15th?
She, too, is getting very excited! Waiting to hear about scholarships/financial aidā¦
@Snap222 My son was accepted in the first wave and received the email about the Scholars program on 12/10.
My daughter received the same email about continuing in the scholars application process, as well. She is an engineering major with a passion for theater and considering the arts scholars program. After researching the dorm this group currently resides in she found out it is one of the dorms without air-conditioning. AC is very important to her due to terrible allergies and asthma. Her allergist told us to keep our windows closed at home and sheās been through five years of allergy shots so very real health concern to her and not just a nice to have. She really needs to think long and hard about the arts scholars. As much as she wants to purse this Iām going to suggest passing on the arts scholars as her health is more important. She plans to minor in theater and coming in with at least a semester of AP and it appears the minor will work with her major so hopefully that will be enough to keep her connected to the theater.
@snap222 While some did receive the scholars preference email earlier, I donāt think it will matter in the grand scheme of things in terms of where youāre placed. On the page where you rate your choices, it said at the top that you are placed based on when you submit your preference sheet so to take your time and choose carefully.
With that said, I wonder how they choose who goes where if it is not on a first come, first serve basis.
@Cooper62 Thatās unfortunate to hear! Has she looked into the Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Program? Itās definitely not theater but based on the description seems like itāll allow her to still be creative if thatās what she wants. And of course the engineering scholars programs as well.
With the size of Ohio State, Iām sure there will be many clubs and groups she can join that deal directly with theatre.
Daughter heard today by email she was admitted to honors. Just FYI if people are waiting to hear and they send in bulk. She was admitted 12/15 wave.
Son received acceptance letter in the mail yesterday re College of Engineering. No email re Honors yet. He was in the 12/15 wave of acceptances.
Has anyone heard when this monthās round of notifications goes out? Will it be the 12th or 19th? Weāre waiting to hear for direct entry Nursing. Thanks!
@snap222 my 19 year old son (OSU freshman) got his first choice scholars program. His acceptance letter was dated December 17 2016. He submitted his Scholars app relatively quickly after getting the invite but I donāt know when that was. (His letter outlining his scholarships was dated February 10 2017 FWIW). I believe he paid his academic deposit by late February. His scholars program is STEM exploration and engagement and while he doesnāt tout it as being a super worthwhile program, from a parentās perspective it has seemed priceless. He did not pre-select a roommate and he was placed with another OOS student that he is super-compatible with. He very quickly had a high caliber (great people and academically focused) group of friends that are all academically focused but also have a great time together. He is very happy at OSU. Just not a big fan of Columbus winter weather.
My seventeen year old son hasnāt been accepted yet. He has much better test scores (ACT 35 vs 31) and much lower grades (I donāt recall their GPAs but their class ranks are ~25 and ~10) than his brother. OSU is one of four schools that he is considering. Heās been accepted to two so far.
I didnāt follow these boards with my older son. It was less stressful being unaware that other students knew already.
