Does anyone know when you hear back from the honors program & Morrill scholarship, along with other scholarships?

I just called OSU. The counselor on the phone said they are still processing the rest of the EA applications and results will be out by the end of the month. So I guess we just have to wait a little longer.

@collegeaaa thank you for the update. Sick of waiting tho. Lol

@FLsenior00 Please do not get offended. But I am shocked you were admitted. My son yes had a lower ACT than you, but his GPA was higher ( 3.5). His consultant even told him to not even bother applying there because she said it was too high of a reach school for him and that he should focus on those universities that he has more of a chance getting into. For whatever reason on a whim on December 29th, he applied. But after doing so because his ACT was lower than yoursā€¦ He did not even bother having his ACT scores sent realizing according to his consultant that he would never get in anyway. Obviously because he applied after early action, he has not heard anything yet.

Andreq
Ohio State considers class rank. Perhaps this is why?

Maybe because FLSenior has 40+ credits of dual enrollment? They review holistically and donā€™t have any stat based cutoffs.

@Andreq There are a lot of reasons. FLSenior also seemed to be an athlete and maybe class rank? I think there are a lot of things to consider. The essays may have been better, activities were done at a higher degree, intended major etc. I think college apps are more of a frame game. You just have to frame yourself correctly to show your best side. For example, if you have a lower GPA it could be compensated by having done a self-perpetuated project like getting a patent for an idea you had or becoming a star athlete. It really depends.

@ambeeywlo Hmm well my son was a high-level gymnast who competed for the past 11 years training 24 hours a week. And Ohio State has a menā€™s gymnastics team. But because my sonā€™s consultant convinced him not to apply he never even bothered trying to get in touch with the team coaches to try to get recruited. And as I said it was very last second on December 29 he decided, ā€œWhat the hell?ā€ and he decided to apply. But then after doing so he thought better of it realizing he didnā€™t think he had a chance therefore never even asked for his AC T score which was a tiny bit lower than the person we are referring to had. But again my sonā€™s GPA was slightly higher where FL Senior says they only had a 2.97, my sonā€™s GPA was a 3.5.
My son actually went to an extremely rigorous high school that was ranked in the top 2% academically in our state ( CA) and ranked by Newsweek magazine two years ago as one of the top 100 best high schools academically in the country. Math wiseā€¦ He was One of only a handful of students at the school who are as far ahead in math as he wasā€¦ In 11th grade he was already in AP calculus and this year as a senior AP stats. As far as mouth he took some more rigorous classes that included anatomy which was an honors class and last Mester molecular genetics which was also an honors class. Iā€™m not saying that tonightā€¦ But according to him he hasnā€™t heard anything from them yet not even any indication for him to send his AC T scores to themā€¦ His high school did not have class rankings . As his principal said,ā€ Itā€™s too competitive of a school the kids would kill each other! ā€œ LOL We will just wait and see. I donā€™t even know when they send out the notifications to those who did not apply early action. But I would think at this point unless they are not interested in the slightest they shouldā€™ve contacted him asking him to send his ECT score which probably will scare them off! LOL

Fire your consultant @Andreq

Tell him do not get discouraged. I did not think that I would get in with my GPA. Life happens and I couldnā€™t bring my GPA up to a three until December. I was super sick for 2 years of high school which did impact my GPA, but I also had letters of recommendations that showed I worked my but off even with missing a lot of school. Have your son take his ACT again and have him ask teachers or school administrators to write him a letter of recommendation. They look at the whole picture not just what you got on your SAT or ACT. Best of luck to your son @Andreq

@Andreq Ohio State looks at grades and ACT scores but they are also holistic, I had friends with higher ACT scores and grades than me not get in while I was accepted. I had a killer personal statement essay as well as tons of community service, APs and extra curriculars. I also worked. With that being said remember the holistic 10 point rating system they use at OSU which looks at the applicant as a whole not just the stats. I know that on this site you see a lot of high stats but if you are in the top 25% percent of your class there is hope. I do not however know anyone who has gotten in that is not in the top 25%.

@Andreq I am sorry your son did not apply EA. Goodness, I would think a consultant would have steered your son with his gymnastic abilities into possible recruitment. It is obvious that there are special exceptions in the academic area for recruited athletes. If you have Naviance, look at the scattergrams, you can see those one or two low scores on ACT or GpA but still accepted. I always interpreted that as another gift the student can offer the college; usually in the way of athletics. How can you be perfect at everything? Take all the rigorous classes with a High GPA, high SAT, and an exceptional athlete? There is not enough time in the day to be that perfect.
Good luck!

@Andreq, has your son checked his OSU portal? It will likely show that he is missing the ACT/SAT. Iā€™d be surprised if OSU contacted your son to request the score. They just have too many applicants. In any event, if he wants to be considered he needs to send his score ASAP.

Thx @CWAE182025 . At the time that he finally was starting to apply he had already been toying with and she knew that giving up gymnastics. Which he ended up doing over the summer. Therefore when it actually came time to apply, and she knew that his academics in no way were strong enough to get him in without the gymnastics, she steered him towards those universities that he would have a better chance of getting into. Yes she encouraged him to apply to a few of his reach schools, but knowing him like she does especially in a large academic setting which for him is not the bestā€¦ She took all of that into consideration and convinced him not to apply. And again even once my son at the last second on December 29 decided to apply, he then had second thoughts because he has never even asked for his AC T scores to be sent because he would have to ask us for the credit card and he hasnā€™t .

@suzy100 We donā€™t know which university portals heā€™s been looking at . Heā€™s very close mouthed. However once he actually applied he then decided he knew it wouldnā€™t be the best place for him and thatā€™s why he chose to not have his AC T scores sent. And when I say reaching out to him I mean in the portal. I donā€™t mean that they sent a separate email to him.

I am a deferred applicant, however I have noticed a change on my application portal, which I find odd. I plan to submit my mid-year transcript, however our school will not have it ready until early February. My application number (on first page of portal, before clicking onto the ā€œapplication statusā€) has changed from a blue highlighted and underlined number to a black printed number. While a subtle change, it makes me wonder if they have processed my application at this time. Does anyone know anything about changes like this? I am more nervous that ever now because I believe my mid-year transcript will help me, as it shows AP courses, honors, and CCP courses and the maintained 3.8 GPA I will have.
