Son Waitlisted after being deferred EA in November. From what it looks like in past years (you can look at the Common Dataset) it varies year to year how many wait list students get accepted.

@maryraym, by lesser qualified candidates are you speaking of stats? If you check the Ohio State admissions page which tells of the requirements to successfully be admitted to Ohio State it states clearly that there is a 10 point criteria based on a holistic review letting you know that the decisions are not made completely on stats. I was one of the lesser qualified kids according to what you labeled as such and I got in. I am very well rounded and offered 2 years of working experience, 4 years of community service, a large number of extra- curriculars, and a killer essay. My grades were high but my ACT score was not a 30, but like I said I was accepted and made the Deanā€™s list the first semester of this year at Ohio State. Also, if you check past threads you will see that many students with high stats are rejected, while others are with lower stats accepted. I know as a parent any time that their child is rejected it is taken personally, I get that, but I also know that delayed does not necessarily mean denied. Hopefully your child will receive the good news you are awaiting in the very near future. Good luck to you!

I apologize for my poor choice of words by implying that my son is better qualified. I think k I was referring to the frustrating and heartbreaking process this has been. I completely agree with everything you said. I am excited to know that your hard work in and out of the classroom has been rewarded.

Honestly, I just felt bad for so many on here that had been waiting as long as last fall only to be rejected or left in limbo at the last moment. You are right and wise to know that as a parent it is hard to see your child not get his choice. I just really loved what someone put on here about love the school that loves you and you will be where you are meant to be. Now I realize that no matter what our sons or anyoneā€™s qualifications are, it is important to find the right fit. Again, my sincere apologies if my words hurt anyone.

@maryraym, apology accepted! My parents are the same way when it comes to me. I applied at OSU last year in October EA, and was deferred in December only to be waitlisted in March. I was devastated, but early in May I was accepted and I am glad I held out and chose to attend OSU. I was accepted to a number of other good schools but I wanted to be a Buckeye, so that is where I am. I am hopeful that this year they will admit the entire waitlist as they did in previous years before. Good Luck!

Mine too 8-|

Mine says ā€œevaluationā€ too.

Are there any girls on here who were wait offered that are accepting wait list and going if they get in?

@Zentanglist I just got off the phone with an admissions counselor because my daughters portal is still saying ā€œEvaluationā€. He informed me that there was a glitch in the system with about 200 applicants and theyā€™re trying to resolve the issues by early this afternoon. He told me to try to see if the portal has changed and if not he will call me and we will have to go from thereā€¦ I hope this helps

@lolomcmomo me!

@slayld me too! Have you looked for a roommate at all for if you get in?

Status just changed from Wait Offer to Waitlisted. Submitting my deposit for my second choice school today. I hope they accept all of us like they did last year. Fingers crossed.

@kimbo42 Thanks for the info

@Zentanglist Mine too

@Fafjoe22, I hope they take the entire list as well! Hang in there, like I said earlier delayed does not mean denied! Fingers crossed for you all.

My daughter didnā€™t get inā€¦ Good luck to the rest of you guys that are waiting on a decision

I applied Jan 30 and learned in early March that I got in. Iā€™m out of state, and OSU was never an option unless I received a lot of financial aid or scholarship money. Last week, I got an email that I got into the scholars program and later last week my financial aid came out, and OSU gave me next to nothing. I applied for the Morrill Scholarship but am unsure if Iā€™d even be considered since I applied ED. I read that most students received their scholarship info in the mail, but Iā€™ve gotten nothing. Do you think itā€™s likely that I will get any scholarship money at this point? Iā€™m really worried.

Stats:
SAT: 1440
GPA: 3.93/4.62
Lacrosse/soccer all four years
Student government for three years in addition to various other leadership roles
Lots of volunteer work, 500+ service hours

@toothbrush123 it seems that you applied too late to be considered for any scholarships.

I just cant emphasize this enough for those looking to apply to Ohio State University in the years to come. In order to give yourself the best chance to get awarded a scholarship (Morrill, Buckeye, or any scholarship for that matter), you must apply by OCTOBER 15thā€¦The admissions department states:

ā€œApplicants who meet the criteria and apply to the university by November 1 will automatically be considered or We strongly recommend that applicants meet our November 1 early action deadlineā€

Anyone who applies close to that date is really taking a riskā€¦ I honestly think that working on the applications during the summer months is really the best time to cut down on the stress.
