When do we typically hear back from Hartt on admissions decisions? I auditioned on Feb 16th, so I know I have some time… I’m just preparing myself to cry, that’s all.
@skylarmt, Hartt is infamous for taking forever to send out notifications. Last year my D auditioned on Feb. 16, but didn’t hear back till March 29th. But when she did hear back, it was an acceptance! So prepare for a long wait, but hopefully with good news at the end. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Last year my D heard back about 2 weeks after her audition. I hope you get good news soon…!
@actorparent1 and @MThopeful2022 are either of your daughters currently Hartt students? If so I just have a few questions - maybe you could answer? TIA!
Yes, @El-Cee! My D is at Hartt for acting, and MThopeful2022’s D is there for MT. Ask away!
thank you @actorparent1… my daughter is MT. Having trouble finding some info RE: productions online.
Curious about performance opportunities at Hartt. Specifically, the number of musicals and plays… along with any other opportunities through the local theater scene. (annual Christmas Story production?)
Also, if anyone would like to share details on past productions… trying to get a feel for the types of shows they gravitate towards? Classic, Contemporary, anything edgy, etc?
Lastly, how often the MT’s dance each week. We’ve seen everything from one day per week to five days per week within various MT programs. Trying to gauge how much she would be able to dance.
Thanks in advance for any intel!
I posted about the performances on your other thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-hartford-hartt-school-mt/2127670-performance-number-and-type.html#latest
Hopefully @MThopeful2022 can answer the dance question!
I think @actorparent1 covered the performance opportunities well in her response. Twelfth Night is being performed this weekend (AT seniors, I believe) and will be live streamed. If you’re interested in watching, I can DM you the link.
As for dance, they “level” the classes (meaning they will place you by ability.). Currently, freshmen take ballet twice per week. Sophomores take ballet, tap and jazz (2x per week each) Juniors take tap and jazz (2x per week each). I don’t believe they have a structured/required dance class in Senior year (although I know D has seniors in her ballet class.) There is the option to take additional dance classes through the Hartt School Community Division (on campus for a fee) and I understand one of the teachers has a studio nearby that the kids will sometimes pop into (my D has done this a few times to take tap and jazz). (Side note: My D was a dancer all her life and has been very happy with the training thus far and completely fine with just taking ballet this year.)
If you go to Hartt’s website you can pull up the MT curriculum so you can see all the classes they take by year. (I can DM you that link too if interested.)
I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, let us know!
Mom of a Hartt senior MT chiming in. Dance is taken by most, but not all seniors. It is encouraged, but you can opt out if you want to (not required to graduate) - she improved yer dance a LOT since starting. It was her weakest area, but she felt like she was really supported and pushed to improve in dance, and really has. She will never be cast as a “dancer” but she can dance well enough now to make it through a dance call and to serve in a dance ensemble for a not-too-dance-heavy show, or a lead role where some moderate level of dance is needed, particularly tap, where she has improved by MILES thanks to Ralph Perkins, who is awesome!
As for productions, MTs do sometimes get cast in straight plays if they express a desire and they need additional people, but mainly they are cast only in musicals, They typically do 2 black box and 1 mainstage per semester that are cast with only Juniors and Seniors, sophomores have “projects” which are staged black-box shows that are exclusive to sophomores. Freshman work backstage as tech experience. They also have opportunities to audition for Hartford Stage and do the Goodspeed Opera festival of new musicals during winter break of senior year.
If you have any other questions, I am happy to help.
I auditioned at Unifieds on Feb 4th and I still haven’t heard back. Does anyone know how many students they typically accept or waitlist?
@Jingle2001, I know that last year they auditioned 600 kids for MT and ended up with a class of 40 ( more than they wanted - they aim for 25-28, but had a higher than expected yield). So I’d guess they accepted around 60 to 75.
My daughter also auditioned at Chicago Unifieds. No response yet, and we do know a couple of kids who got a quick “no” after Unifieds. (Insanely talented kids, I might add… that is the mystery of this process.) We’ve seen the school and liked the facilities, though Hartford is kind of depressing and we did NOT get to see a class. We have friends there who love it, so that counts for a lot. Interested that they ended up with such a big class last year! I wonder if they will have to shoot for a smaller class this year to balance things out?
I understand they received over 800 applications this year, shooting for a class of 25 - most applications they’ve ever received for MT. It indeed was a larger class this year, so it will be interesting to see how many they actually accept this year.
I auditioned for both acting and mt and got accepted into acting yesterday
Congratulations, @Texasdreamer!
@texasdreamer Congrats!!! That’s awesome! When did you audition?
@skylarmt I auditioned at LA unifieds, so I think February 10th!
@texasdreamer CONGRATULATIONS, so exciting! Did you receive a phone call, email, or a letter?
Just got email acceptances for MT for both twins, today. They auditioned at LA Unifieds.
@Divamamacita that’s terrific! Congratulations!
