I applied to the University of Michigan (deferred) and the University of Toledo (accepted – it was my safety).

I got in, I’m so excited! I checked yesterday at about 4:00 pm and still deferred. I checked again last night after the olympic Opening Ceremony and the status changed to Admitted. Yahoo! (3.5 wgpa, 29 ACT, 1280 SAT, ECs, app submitted 11/01, deferred 1/07). Do you think I can still apply for Scholars Program?

^Congrats! Doesn’t it make you wonder who is working late at night there, changing statuses? You should email the scholars office; I emailed them a question last week and they got back to me right away.

I was accepted today:
Stats:
~3.5gpa
2060 SAT and 30 act (31 superscore)
2 AP’s
EC’s:
Won International Science Competition (re-designed spacesuit)
Won 2nd place in NASA’s high School competition (re-designed DC-3)
Member and speaker at AIAA and TED.
President of Junior Statesmen of America
Chess Club
LA Community Service Award (did about 240hours)
Did research on carbon nanotubes

So my GPA was decent and my test scores were pretty good. My EC’s though are pretty damn good and my essay was very strong. I am very happy I was accepted and hopefully this helps other people determine why they got accepted or denied. I was worried since I applied mid January.

Congrats redsoxfan4. I just got accepted yesterday. They seem to be putting the emphasis on not just academics this year. My stats as a whole were lower yet I got accepted.

Denied…

Male Out of State Student (N. Dakota)
3.82 GPA
35 ACT
Top 5%
Good number of AP’s and Dual Enrollment classes

Oh well.

eh how the fuuuck did that happen. those are like ivy league stats

Osu has been doing a lot of denial to kids who seem like they’re applying just to be a safety.

^I think also that the time you applied factored into it. kids who applied early seemed to have better chances. Loonlake, it you are really interested in OSU, you should call the admissions office to appeal. I’d understand their concern in admitting kids with super high stats who will go elsewhere, but if you really wanted to attend they would be crazy to turn you away.

^ I applied in September hahah

However when I filled out the OSU app, I’d already been accepted to the school I’d wanted to go to and I knew I’d be going there, so my essay and overall enthusiasm in the application was lacking a bit. My dad just wanted me to apply to other schools.

that honestly doesn’t make any sense. maybe they rejected you because they figured you wouldn’t be academically challenged. take it as a complimient.
