I submitted everything on 10/24 and sent stuff in shortly thereafter. CA Resident, 3.4-3.5 GPA, bad rank (like 52nd percentile), 29 ACT, good ec’s, lots of APs + dual enrollment, 2 recs.

OSU is my second choice, so I was kind of freaking out, not gonna lie…

My OSS DS just found out he got admitted to Ohio State. Checked his status on the website and it said “admitted.” Yea. He really liked the school when he went back in October for his Honors College invite. It is so nice to be accepted to a school he really likes. Now don’t say anything to him, I have to pretend not to know when he checks his status today. I just was too nervous so I checked first. :)

Good luck to everyone waiting and good luck with all the snow.

My first choice is UIUC. And I’m going for advertising/media/film/journalism… something related to that or something. I guess I don’t really know.

Yeah. My application has been complete since September 30 and I’m still in evaluation. Either they’re having a hard time deciding, or…well I don’t know what. But it’s making me really nervous.

I feel ya. Im nervous too. Its weird cause a check like 3 or 4 times a day. After 9 oclock, then noon, then 3, then 5. I dont know why i do that, i guess i just think those would be the possible time of release. What are your stats and indicated major if you dont mind me asking? Im instate as well, how bout you again if you dont mind?

I feel the same way. I applied in the middle of October and the rest of my stuff was in by the 28th so I am so nervous, since I’m completely obsessed with getting into OSU. My stats were pretty much the same as Cody2010’s except my ACT was 28 not 29, so that gives me a small glimmer of hope. Plus Ohio U. offered me a scholarship so my dad seems to think I’ll get in, but I have nagging feelings that I won’t even though I know I’m good enough.

i had all of my transcripts into tOSU on october 5th. Just got my acceptance yesterday. I’m oos. had act 29 and sat 1910 (reading - 670. math- 630. writing 610), along with full IB courseload. I had checked it at about noon and it still said evaluated. Checked it at about 6 and it said i had been admitted.

Hmmmm… I think youre right. That just made me feel a whole lot better. Do you think they want to meet their quota of OOS with the early applicants? Youre a parent… why do you think they do this?

my son is still evaluation. He was fooling around on the site tonight and noticed he had been assigned an OSU internet username (lastname.##@osu.edu). Is every applicant given one? He’s hoping that might be an indication of an admit soon?

Squattingdog: OOS tuition is around $22,000 a year, compared to ~$8-9k for in state. I’ve read that President Gee has promised to not raise tuition for 2 years (although I don’t know when that started, last year? this year?), so they need to have a good base of out of state students paying the higher tuition to help with revenues. I imagine alumni are not donating as much either; when I got the phone call last month to donate I had to tell the student calling that I am unemployed and cannot donate right now. I imagine there are quite a few people in this situation. So a good source of revenue is from out of state students. Another angle is that since Ohio State wants to serve its in state students primarily, as it should, it wants to identify the out of state students it wants first before looking at the in state students. So I don’t think I would be too concerned yet, admission doesn’t close for a long time, which I know doesn’t help. My cousin had stats similar to yours last year and she got in…don’t give up…I am hoping you get a nice holiday present!!!

Here’s the deal. If you apply super early (as soon as the application comes out or one-three weeks later) then you will get a decision in mid-late november. If you submit the application after that, then you basically get roped into the group that has to wait until december first or later on a rolling basis. I just got in yesterday, but the decisions should def. come soon especially if it says evaluation. Good Luck!

Applying early is not necessarily a guarantee that you’ll get an early response. I know of several people that applied in August and are still in evaluation status. I do believe that those people that have heard early are those that qualify for the honors program or have above average test scores. I’ve been told that the masses who may fall in the more average student category should hear something in the next week if they applied early. Only time will tell if what I was told is accurate. Naturally, everyone is anxious to hear their status. Good luck to all!

Those who haven’t heard yet even if applied early need not be overly concerned. Much of it depends on what major you indicated, honors/scholars status, etc… My son applied right before the deadline last year and heard just 3 weeks later, but his cousin, who had basically the same stats and applied earlier, actually heard later but had declared a major/school which was competitive so those apps get more of “look” in general, I think (my son is undecided major). The only real difference between them is that my son happened to end up with higher test scores and he is in Scholars. Our niece, also a specific and competitive major who applied earlier, also has not heard anything yet even with stellar qualifications. So don’t freak out yet - they have thousands of applications to wade through and sometimes with certain majors, etc., it takes longer.
