Admissions decisions?

I got a “likely” call! :)

MyBls, what do they say in these “likely” calls?

Talked to admission office. They will mail on 24th and decisions willl come online 24 hours later.

well, talking about the Lehigh decisions, i had applied ED 1 there and had received my decision on 16th december ( they had some problem with application portal, so they couldnt publish it on 15th), i received no emails, i called on 15th but theyd say that decisions would be posted online, still the portal was dysfunctional… that was hectic day, and what i received on was infact not a decision. they neither rejected me nor accepted or differed me… they provided me a deadline till January 8 to resubmit my financial aid forms so that they could reevaluate my application. I felt extremely offended because they asked me to pay full tuition even when they knew that i couldnt pay more than 5K…
Im an international student.

Hey Hemin12

I’m an international RD applicant…and I have a huge need too…my efc is around 10k…can you please post your stats?

Hi Hemin. I believe my efc was around $7k and I got about $24k from lehigh for the year, so they covered about half. Can’t complain. They are good with financial aid. International students though I’m not sure about. I know there is something weird with how they aid internationals.

About the diversity weekend, as the email said posted by someone else, it is a good sign that you were invited, but not definite on admission. You may be on the waitlist. Many kids transfer after 1 semester at another college also.

Just wait for the letter. The admitted packet is a big brown packet (I think in a big white envelope that says congratulations on the front).

Regardless, don’t be upset if you don’t get in. Lehigh is great, but you can do just as well elsewhere. And if you start somewhere and don’t like it, put in a transfer application ASAP.

ar317, the banner in the welcome desk during last year’s Lehigh Diversity Life Weekend said:

“Welcome Admitted Students”

I don’t think that Lehigh intends to call waitlisted students “admitted students” - do you?

if you got the letter, you probably got in. the admissions office said that all decisions will be posted by the 25th or 26th

I’d like to see the picture. I’m just saying don’t get your hopes up. I remember last year kids went through the same thing of being invited to the diversity weekend and wondering if that meant they got in. Just wait for the admission letter. lol. It would suck if you convinced yourself you’ve been accepted only to be disappointed. Relax! Enjoy your senior year of highschool! I’m sure you can’t wait to start college with all the fun, but the work in college is definitely not as easy as highschool! You don’t need the stress already worrying about admission.

ar3, here you go:

@spaceforager::: Lehigh had sent me a mail with a enclosed information sheet asking me to pay full tuition and clearly stating(in bold letters) that There was no more financial Aid available for International Students. I told everyone from my school who were planning to apply to Lehigh under RD to withdraw, why waste postage cost applying to a university which has no Aid for International Students, later that day, one of my friends emailed Lehigh Admissions. They replied saying that international students were highly encouraged to apply for financial aid. I was extremely surprised by the Lehigh admission. No offence, but there was something fishy. If there was enough aid, why did Lehigh sent me a mail clearly stating that there was no more aid for intl students?? Hadn’t they liked me, they could have rejected me, amazing!!!
Also, I know Lehigh is great, I had very much liked Lehigh and the amazing engineering programs+research opportunities there, thats the reason I had applied under ED… I would have happily accepted the rejection letter but things went far beyond.
My stats:
GPA–3.80(academic transcript contains almost all A)
SAT I-- 1920
TOEFL-109(iBT)
ECA-- National Representative in Science Fair in Japan, Research paper in a medicinal herb(Cordyceps sinensis), School Government, Theater, etc…
P.S. Im really sorry if I sound offending to anyone, im just putting down my views… : )

They said they strongly encourage you to APPLY for financial aid, not that they will provide any. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get aid. I always heard that international students got little to no aid. I think it is stupid, but I guess their thinking is that you will get other scholarships, or that if you want to study in the United States you will pay the price and come. You said your EFC was like $10,000? Mine was around $7,000 and they covered half of the estimated total cost of attendance for me. I really think you should have been provided some aid. The letter they sent clearly stated “There is no more financial aid available for international students”?

ar31, I am a little surprised with this:

“Mine was around $7,000 and they covered half of the estimated total cost of attendance for me.”

this means about $25,000 in scholarship, $5,500 in loans and a $3,000 job, leaving your parents to pay around $18,000, much more than the $7,000 EFC. I have would have expected a $36,000 scholarship from a school such as Lehigh with your situation.

If you really must know, it was:

$25,660 lehigh grant (You do not have to pay this back)

$3,500 Subsidized Fed Stafford Loan (Have to pay back)

$2,000 Unsub Fed Stafford Loan (Have to pay back)

I was offered work study, but I have a part time job at home I can work on breaks and weekends.

Stop worrying about money. Hopefully when you graduate you’ll make enough to pay it off in a few years.

Lehigh may be thought of as a wealthy university, but there is definitely not enough money allocated for everyone to get a $25k grant.

Crossing my fingers that aside from getting an acceptance letter, the financial aid package would be enough to cover half the costs…I have been reading some of the replies of this thread and if I am not making errors, I believe I am already in seeing how I got that annual meeting invitation a week ago.

ar, again, I am a little surprised.

It is my understanding that the better schools, of which Lehigh is one of them, would offer the following, with an EFC of $7,000:

$34,500 Lehigh Grant
$3,500 Stafford Loan (subs)
$2,000 Stafford Loan (unsubs)
$3,000 Work Study

$43,000 total “Financial Aid”

with the parents paying $7,000

to cover total expenses of $50,000

How can you just expect someone else to pay for your education?

One of my friends got in RD today. He heard because basically his whole family went to Lehigh so his father recieved a phone call. Probably the only reason he got in bc his gpa is ridiculously low.

ar, stop your nonsese. Believe it or not, there are families out there that can’t afford to even pay the EFC, let alone $11,000 greater than the EFC…

and

tell that to the colleges that DO use the financial aid structure that I have outlined.

your post:

"How can you just expect someone else to pay for your education? "

johnAdams, Trust me, I’m not rich by any means. In fact, my financial situation got worse this year, forcing me to move out of the dorms and commute so I wouldn’t have to pay for room and board.
Also, “tell that to the colleges that DO use the financial aid structure that I have outlined.”?
Which colleges? Have you been accepted to others and already received fin. aid. letters from them? As far as I know, outside of Ivy League schools, very few give anything near full need. Lehigh is one of the best. Like I said, I complain about the college costs as well, but I’m not complaining specifically about Lehigh, because the aid they gave me brought the price down to what I would be paying to be at Penn State after their financial aid.

alison, yeah, there are a lot of legacy students at lehigh.
