He did not apply for scholarships. Not that we don’t need them…
@tweetie1 Impressive stats for your son, all on top of dealing with serious health issues. As to merit scholarships at OSU, you don’t have to apply for them separately, you are automatically considered when you apply before Nov. 1st deadline. Your son qualifies for Provost scholarship, but note, the QUALIFIES, that doesn’t mean he will automatically get it, they run out of money before everyone who qualifies gets a scholarship. There are additional special scholarships that you need to apply for, must fill out FAFSA and apply. See this link for more info: https://sfa.osu.edu/incoming-freshmen/about-aid/types-of-aid/scholarships
Good luck and I wish your son good health.
@Mombean Thanks for the information and kind words. I just found his transcript for the start of his senior year. He is in top 5% of 298. It is also possible he could be in the 3%…maybe the transcript from the guidance office has his actual numbers. He was ranked 3rd in his class prior to the change in how they rank.
Question about the status on the portal:
D19’s portal shows everything as Completed, except for one item. “Supplemental Info - Q10C” shows as Incomplete. The description is “Supplemental Information and Authorization for Release of Information”.
Any idea what this missing piece is? The Common App shows complete and submitted as of 10/30.
From what I understand the first EA batch will be released on Friday, is there a time of day they are released or is it throughout the day?
@limdmom in the past years, decisions seem to have come in from around 3:30 pm - 10:00 pm est. Declines/deferrals came first and acceptances came later in the afternoon and into the night.
Reposting this from a different thread:
Is the “first round” of decisions the people they want the most (like highest stats, etc), or is it just the chronologically first people who applied?
If I submitted my application on 10-17, what are my chances of hearing back on Friday?
Thanks guys!
I hope they do it somewhat chronologically, but chances are it’s just random unless someone else has heard differently. @baseball3518
They do not do it chronologically. And while I have seen a fair number of high stat applicants get accepted in the first round i the last 3 years, it is not exclusively high stat applicants. It is truly a lesson in patience to go through the college application process, particularly for schools that do not release all decisions on a date that is published in advance.
@momzilla2D Go to the common app and look under “My Colleges” under Ohio State and look at Recommenders and FERPA. That’s all I can think that they might be talking about. You have to fill out a release authorization. If that’s been done, I would call the admissions office at Ohio State and talk to them about what’s missing. Maybe it’s something from your guidance counselor. Generally the office is pretty helpful, but they will start being bombarded with phone calls on when acceptance decisions are coming out now that we are so close to the first round. Good luck getting it sorted out.
@adlgel so you’re saying that the order of decisions is random then? At least for the most part?
@Mombean Thank you. D19 talked to her GC and they figured out what it is. It was a form OSU had emailed her regarding her disciplinary action. Common app has something, but apparently OSU has their own form outside of the common app. Hopefully it won’t kick her to RD.
I’m saying that they do not process applications on a strictly First In First Out order. So submitting your app in September doesn’t mean you’ll be in the first wave of releases. That is not the same as saying the order of decision releases is random.
I submitted my app on Nov 1st for engineering. I highly doubt I’ll get my decision tomorrow, (they have a lot of engineering applicants). If I do, I’ll be so excited though!
If I submitted my application October 20th. How likely do you guys think I’ll get a decision tomorrow? Well I can’t delete this. But I just re-read the comments above and do not need an answer.
choice of major actually has no effect on your application! @equationlover
Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
