Does anyone know any stats for accepted applicants who were originally deferred ? Do a lot of people who get deferred end up getting in? I’m just trying to figure out if I really wanna wait it out to see if I end up getting in.
I still don’t get it my result…is that mean I am deferred?
I can’t understand why some of those who posted with very high stats were deferred (ACT 30+, GPA 3.8+, tons of extracurricular/AP/CCP credits etc). My guess is that some of it is in part due to intended major; yet, some decisions may have been due to not fitting a specific “mold” that OSU is looking for in a student (i.e., diverse freshman class). I believe they want lots of OOS, in-state from rural areas (“underprivileged”), underrepresented students, first-generation applicants, etc. I could be wrong though
@clairescho18 I am surprised you were deferred if you were accepted to Case. Case has a 36% accepted rate and OSU has a 48%! That’s just very surprising! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you—I know how so much rides on the financial comittment. Please keep us posted.
@oj2018 Once you are deferred, admissions will not have your app revisited with RD until they have completed the RD process. Remember your app has already been reviewed once. In March it will be revisited again and prayerfully you will be admitted from there. Hope this helps! I know this is frustrating but keep your head up. This site offered me a lot of comfort when I was going through the Admissions process.
Is there anyone who got in with a 33 ACT and 3.3-3.4 GPA?
It seems OSU favors a higher GPA much more than a good ACT score. That doesn’t seem right as kids with rigorous course loads usually always test higher, but may not be getting easy A’s. There is a child in my kids school 3 math levels behind and 6 points lower on their ACT, but with a .2 higher GPA and got in. Happy for them, but very frustrated. Looking at the acceptances here and from people we know, most have ACT’s in the mid to high 20’s but high weighted GPA’s. So unfortunately it doesn’t look well for you.
I’m so upset I checked the portal around 4:00 yesterday and saw that I was also deferred.
27 ACT
4.2 GPA
150+ service hours
Involved in xc and track
4-H and other extracurriculars + lots of leadership positions
And still I ended up being deferred and I just don’t know why…
I haven’t seen any stats posted here for anyone who didn’t deserve to be admitted. There are so many other great universities out there who will literally pay you to attend. If Ohio State couldn’t make a decision and deferred you then they don’t deserve you.
Does anyone know if there is a place that shows the 2018 deferrals and the % of those that were admitted?
Did you eventually get accepted/admitted? If so, approximately when (end of Feb or March)?

@dadmanwalking Wow! That’s nuts? I would wonder the same thing for kid #2. Crazy. I hope she gets accepted eventually, but with those stats, she could get into some great schools!
My daughter OOS from Maryland applied EA 11-1 and still has not heard anything, and others in her school say the same. If anyone knows anything more about these decisions coming out, please share!

@moffittm One can never figure out why some are deferred and others aren’t. Some with much higher stats were also deferred while others with lower stats are admitted. Remember Ohio State does a holistic review and it has 10 parts to it. While a person is strong in one aspect perhaps the essay was not strong enough or they are missing something in another area. Keep your head up however and have a safety school. That is what I did.
Applied early action on 8/1. Still in evaluation.
My daughter OOS from Massachusetts still as yet to hear anything as well and she applied EA on 11-1. She’s pretty frustrated as she has heard from all her other EA schools. Will they be releasing more today?
33 ACT and still deferred since December. My GPA was lower (below 3.5, but my guidance counselor sent a note explaining that it’s low due to health reasons).
@JLKee @CoreyMac14 My daughter’s status said evaluation and that her application date was 10/31 and her app complete for the longest time. She started to have concerns last week when decisions came out and it was still under evaluation. So she called admissions either Monday or Tuesday this week just to confirm that her application was indeed marked as EA. They confirmed that it was EA and she finally received her decision last night.
I don’t know if they have another batch of releases today, but I would suggest calling them today and confirming that your application qualified as EA…and then, if so, ask when you can expect a decision.
Good luck!
To everyone who got deferred (or rejected), your deferral may not have anything to do with how academically accomplished you are.
Harvard recently came under fire for discrimination in their admissions process and its likely that other universities do the same…
They probably compare you to other people of your race to determine your admission. There probably aren’t statistics or facts to prove it but if you take one look at OSU it becomes clear. The place is crawling with Asians and Caucasians… Maybe that’s why they want to diversify their freshman class so bad.
If it doesn’t make sense why you got deferred then it’s probably this…
