I was wondering if anyone knew when the admissions will open for next year’s class (class of 2021)?
I think I read somewhere that applications will open in July.
Thanks mommdc!
July is correct!

I sent an email to Admissions and did not get a reply but what is Pitt’s policy for the new Coalition for Access application? They have an image on the website that they are a proud member but no information on their policy regarding it for the next admissions cycle about to start.
@dolemite, You will be able to apply to Pitt through the Coalition Application. We are working on getting more details out shortly!

Does anyone know how Pitt weights the factors for merit scholarships? Specifically, if a student exceeds the test score requirements and exceeds the GPA but is not in the top 5% of class (at a highly competitive, top rated public school in the state) would the students still be considered for merit $? The website indicates that a student would need ALL requirements to be competitive so we are not sure if we should take Pitt off of the list.
Pitt is #1 or #2 on her list right now and she is a legacy - but does not have the class rank to be competitive for the scholarships. Without merit scholarships it makes Pitt much more expensive than many similarly rated OOS schools.
@novicemom23kids, To discuss your daughter’s specific situation, I would encourage you to contact our office and ask to speak to an Admissions Counselor. They would be happy to walk you through the scholarship process and have a more detailed conversation about the questions you have.

Thank you @hailtopitt1787 - I will have her call tomorrow before she heads to work. With very little time to make second visits and get the list narrowed down she doesn’t want to get her heart set on Pitt if the cost makes it unreasonable compared to her other options. She will set up a more in-depth second tour if it looks like merit scholarships are an option.
@novicemom23kids, there are some additional scholarships for PA students only, the Nordenberg and Stamps leadership scholarship. She might be able to apply to those as well.
Yes, for PA residents the Stamps and Nordenberg scholarships are an option. There is more information about specific merit aid options at oafa.pitt.edu/scholarships.

@hailtopitt1787 I’m filling out the app now, how set in stone is the major? Is it easy to change before (hypothetically) classes start? Right now I just put undeclared for the school of arts and sciences but I’m not sure if it’s a big deal. thanks
@almostdonewithhs, It is not set in stone at all. Students don’t technically declare their major until they are enrolled at Pitt. If you put down undeclared for Arts and Sciences, your application will be reviewed for admission to the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and, if you are admitted, you can declare a major once you are here.
For others reading this forum who may need to know: it does matter what major you declare if you would like to be considered for one of our Guaranteed Admissions Programs. Check out the GAPs here, the page for the program you are interested will walk you through any steps you should take when submitting your application. Note: We are currently in the process of updating the GAP pages on our website to reflect the new SAT system. Please refer back to them again in about two weeks for the most up-to-date information on the specific program you are interested in: https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/guaranteed-admissions-programs/
Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 is there anywhere to get more info about the public health gap? It only has the minimum test scores for consideration and the gpa needed to continue.
@almostdonewithhs, I can tell you that the updated SAT/ACT numbers are 1360 SAT and 29 ACT. Let me follow up with a colleague and see if I can find any more information for you.

@hailtopitt1787 sorry for all of the questions! I just have one final one: the srar is completely optional, correct? Instead of filling out all the academic info, all I have to do is send in my transcripts? If that’s true, the application will show the academic record section as 0% complete? What happens if you do both by accident? Thanks
Yes, the SRAR is optional. Just skip that section and send an official HS transcript, if you prefer to do it that way. It shouldn’t happen that you do both on accident, but if that does happen - just contact our office and we will be happy to assist you with sorting it out! 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.

When looking at the SAT / ACT scores quoted in the https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/guaranteed-admissions-programs/ web pages, are they superscores or single-test scores?
