admissions for MSEE

I am considering San Jose State for MSEE because of its close proximity to Silicon Valley and multitudes of tech companies. How hard do you think it would be to get admitted here? I am in my junior year at Purdue and have 2.85 GPA and preparing to study for GREs. I think I should get good score(high quant, above-average verbal). Assuming I'll have above-average letters of recommendation, what are my chances at this school?

The GREs are not critical to your acceptance. I would work hard to get that GPA up. A 2.85 is pretty low for grad work. Work hard and get your grades up. If you do well you might want to let schools know of your GPA in your Junior and Senior years as this is really what they are most interested in.

You are coming from Purdue, a great school. So I think you should be able to get into San Jose. Try to raise your gpa to a 3.0 though.

I am going to try to raise as much as I can. I thought for lower-ranked schools GREs matter more because they want to show they have high average score for the incoming students. Also If I have some research experience, will that help?

Definately! Graduate schools love undergrad students with research experience.
