I’m really curious how they are releasing. Seems totally random at this point! Congrats to those who have received their acceptances!
My DD applied in middle of October and was notified by email yesterday. She set up all her link blue account and now can’t get in. I agree it is very frustrating. She is seriously doubting UKY now. She feels like the problems are maybe a sign that she should not attend. She has an acceptance to UA and into the Honors college. She also has a nice scholarship to go there. We were hoping that UKY will offer her more so she could go there but only time will tell and at this point time has not been a friend.
My D received her acceptance into UK today but was put in a “Pre” engineering program because they said she doesn’t meet the qualifications. They sent us a link to explore the admission criteria for the program. When we clicked the link to see what she could be missing, she meets all the requirements and then some…by a lot. We immediately called admissions and left a message with her counselor but we haven’t received a call back. This is absolutely the most frustrating school we have dealt with during this whole process. Communication is sorely lacking.
She has several other options including admittance to a few honors programs. For some reason, she still wants UK. I’m not so sure.
My D is a hopeful nursing major, so she cast a pretty wide net since direct admit is her ultimate goal. She received her acceptance to our state flagship last Friday and UTK (top choice) yesterday, both direct, so UK is beginning to look less attractive to her. The lack of communication and having no way to even determine if their application is complete is also really frustrating and not helping the situation either. My D had to call to confirm they received her transcript and then again to confirm they received her ACT
Same! My daughter cast a wide net as well including schools that are twice the size of UK in multiple states. We haven’t had any issues with any other school.
I know several families getting really upset with the poor communication from Kentucky. Last year when my son applied it was just the opposite, they were great at sharing information and making applicants feel wanted.
University of Tennessee - Knoxville has already announced merit aid and honors decisions. This seems to put them at a competitive advantage in recruitment of Type A students. Ideally, UK would announce their offers now as well.
Completely agree. My daughter is a high stats student and everyday that passes without communication is a negative. She loves the school but at some point they definitely begin falling behind other schools.
I have to agree… really surprised at the lack of communication and general disorganization. UK was my son’s first choice but they are falling further down the list. We have tried to email with a question and just don’t hear back from admission or scholarship committee. If we had not visited last summer before covid and been impressed with the engineering dept, not sure we would still even be considering UK.
Just got good news tonight! I hope others start hearing soon from the Big Blue Nation.
Admissions? Honors?
Same. My daughter is engineering and the school is falling further and further down the list.
Just admissions came tonight. According to UK website she’ll receive top academic scholarship as an out of state student so that money helps if she decides to attend. Also was granted direct admit to Kelley Business School at IU with good scholarship award so it’s going to be a tough decision for her. Proud that she put herself in position to have options.
As someone who recruits nationally for a large firm, I would say that Kelley is a top program and has a phenomenal career center. Kelley students are widely recruited across the country by consulting firms, I Banks, Silicon Valley, etc and internships are much more widely accessible. UK is not even in the same league. If it’s affordable and you’re studying business, I would strongly suggest Kelley.
Congrats to your daughter! We are still awaiting a decision and hope to hear something SOON! At this point, I assume it’ll be “next year.”
Thanks for the great advice I really appreciate the insight. Both schools affordable — planning to visit IU as soon as campus opens.
DD found out her acceptance Dec 15th by email. She just recieved a formal letter explaining everything she needs to do. However, she has recieved an invitation to interview with a program at BAMA. UKY better get their tails in gear because at this rate they will lose a lot of talented kids.
Still no admission decision for my D. She applied in September. She has lost most interest at this point
Same. I don’t think we have had any communications whatsoever. I sense my D21 has sort of moved on also.
D21 received status update email this morning with acceptance to University and Chem major. Admissions office said notification of honors college and scholarships would be mid Feb - March.
