Today I received my acceptance into the College of Liberal Arts. The weird thing is that I applied to the College of Science and Engineering as my first choice, with the College of Liberal Arts as my second choice.
Does UMinn usually not admit people into their first choice college?
I understand that the College of Engineering is more competitive, but I feel like my stats are competitive:
3.93 unweighted GPA, 31 ACT (33 math), 2040 SAT (700 math)

What were all your stats that got admitted to Engineering? Is it possibly a mistake, should I call them?

Let me know what you think, thanks!

It’s not super common but it definitely happens because like you said CSE is a lot more competitive than CLA. I am also surprised you didn’t get into CSE. Did you take a rigorous schedule and have a good class rank? You can call them but honestly I’d be surprised if it was an outright mistake.

Yeah my schedule is as hard as it gets at my school haha. It’s weird, but I already accepted an offer at my number one school so I was just curious. Thanks for your response!

Same thing happened to me. Applied to CSE and was admitted into CLA. My stats are quite similar to yours, 4.0 GPA, 32 ACT, top 10%.

I am out of state, but it seems weird to be waitlisted to CSE. Although, UMinn did have record high applicants this year, something along ~40,000. A little disappointed. All I can do is wait it out and hope I get accepted.

Anyone else in the same boat or was admitted?

Wow, that’s crazy. I got into CSE with a 31 ACT and a 3.9GPA (higher than I originally thought it was ;D). I’m instate.
