The Pendulum - Application rate fluctuates as Elon initiatives change

Thanks for that article. It will be interesting to see the following year if the trend continues.I wonder how the academic statistics stack up to previous years. For instance is it an across the board decline or are stdents from a certain academic quadrant not applying. Similarly, are applications down from a certain region.

I wondered if the competition and selectivity actually drove applications down. The article mentioned it was cheaper to attend GW than Elon. I think the lack of large endowment/FA probably makes it less desirable for those students competing with a higher academic record. They are going to the school with a longer track record and better bottom line. Also in their desire to become more competive academically, Elon may have lost those students who in years past might have applied but didn’t because it seemed like too much of a reach school. I do believe adding to their business program is very important for recruitment. I am sure it is a struggle to maintain the liberal arts traditions in times where people are looking at vocational opportunities

I am sure the admisnistration is looking at the data.

Hopefully the administration is looking at the data and NOT my spelling!

There was an earlier thread in which we were all moaning about Elon’s decision to stop showing their WONDERFUL admissions video. Perhaps they listened, because they are in the process of filming a new video now. There was a “casting call” for students this week.

Great to hear! As I mentioned on that other thread - that video really touched me and made quite an impression. A video that gets Moms sniffling and wiping their eyes - a keeper.
