Admissions not online now, according to Ad. Office

I was able to sign on , but I called the admissions office to ask if only admitted students could log on. They said NO, and that there “is no way to know if you’re admitted from the internet – you can only find out via your letter.”

So, I’m confused.

oh noooo!!!!

well since they let you access the admitted student page with your trackign password before you get your letter in the mail, I think they're lying.

My guess is that the human being is lying because she is embarassed that their "no online notification" policy was in-fact subverted. She may not know who can or can not log in. The answer to that question may rest only in the mind of some IT guy who is off working on a different problem this morning.

This was posted by someone - apparantly in Barnard admin. So it does appear this is fro admitted students.

"Laura --

The Admitted Students website and online RSVPs for spring events will go live on Tuesday, March 27.

Best regards,
Florrie Brafman"

I would be pretty confident that you guys are accepted. Just be excited!

Okay, so what I'm gathering here is that if you CAN sign on, it is pretty sure that you're in.

But if you CAN'T sign on (me me me!), is it almost certain that you're not in, do you think?

(Hoping against hope here- though I never had much chance as an international applying for aid.)

=)

Yeah, I wasn't able to sign in. So I probably didn't get accepted.

Congratulations to everyone who can sign in!

I won't fee better till either someone who couldn't sign in gets an acceptance letter (or my D gets hers). Since we are in CA and the mail may take a bit longer, it would be great to hear if any of you who are unable to sign in get accepted. Good luck to all of you. I really expected that she would get in to Barnard.

Abric1, I hope that they haven't activated all of the passwords yet. Maybe there is still a glimmer of hope.

I'm on Spring Break, but I'm not at home. As soon as my mom gets home I will call her. Maybe something came in the mail today (and if it's not big...oh well...I heard Barnard is Transfer friendly!)

I agree. Guys , post when you get your letters and whether or not you can see the site for those of us still waiting for letters!!

Also - does anyone's financial aid site say anything about awards? mine says all my documents were recieved but nothing about status.

Okay, so I just got an email from Barnard saying I'd been waitlisted. Am really shocked because I thought that they didn't inform applicants online.

Pris89, I believe Barnard has in the past informed international applicants about their acceptance status. That, in my experience, is the one instance in which they DO inform online.

Waitlist is not terrible....just write them and let them know what you have been doing (if significant) and how much you definitely want to attend Barnard (if you, indeed, still do).

Best to you!

Thank you churchmusicmom!

Actually, I'm surprised that I was even waitlisted. As I just posted in another thread, Barnard just has 3 aid packages for international applicants, so I'd figured that asking for aid had pretty much ruined any chance I might have had.
But do people usually ever get the chance to be accepted after being waitlisted?

And can I just say how much I love the way American colleges and universities write to their prospective students?! It's so personalized and warm- you can't even feel that bad about being waitlisted or rejected! =) =)

pris89- financial aid has nothing to do with admittance. the two departments are completely separate and have no bearing on one another.

Audra- I found this on the Barnard website:

Q: Is financial aid available for international students?
A: Barnard’s financial aid program supports the College's institutional priorities of access, quality, and diversity. All Barnard aid is based on financial need and we are committed to offering the College's educational opportunities to as many students as possible. Students who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents are considered international students and Barnard College has designated approximately three need-based scholarships for international students in each first-year entering class. Applicants who wish to be considered for aid must complete the Barnard College Financial Aid Application and the College Board International Student Financial Aid Application by February 1. However, if your parents file a U.S. federal income tax return, please complete the CSS PROFILE Application instead of the College Board International Student Financial Aid Application. Unfortunately, limited federal and state aid funds limit Barnard's ability to cover the need of all eligible applicants. We encourage international students to seek outside scholarship support.

Doesn't this mean that Barnard isn't need-blind for international applicants?

No, Pris, that is not what it means. For admissions purposes, Barnard is need-blind for all applicants. The what you cited just means that there are a very limited number of need-based scholarships for international students (as opposed to US students: Barnard guarantees to meet 100% of their need....or what Barnard and FAFSA says they need). That is why they go on to say that international students should probably go ahead and look for other sources of scholarship money.

Again, if you really still want Barnard, write them!!! Also,, if at all feasable, give admissions a call and talk to them about your application and your wait list status. That would certainly indicate a strong interest....I think your app looks strong and I do think students get in off of the wait list. Not all of them and I have no numbers to support this, but it is worth a try. If money is a problem, though, you will need to find financial aid elsewhere.

Oh wow....thanks churchmusicmom! I hadn't looked at it like that.

And thank you for the advice- I'm going to go and call them right now!

Let us know how that goes!!!

Just got off the phone. I think the call went exceptionally well- the admissions counsellor who took the call was incredibly sweet and helpful!
She told me to go ahead and send in supplementary materials and email the Dean with financial aid questions.

I really am falling in love with the way US colleges treat prospective students...the entire environment of treating each student as an individual who matters is new to me, and very very wonderful!!!!
