admissions notification

Do we get mailed a letter or can we check online?

I was ED II and I got a letter-- I'm not sure whether we can check online or not, though. Good luck!

~*~

Like Tegan29, I was EDII and I got a letter. I'm pretty sure there is not an online notification. If there were, they would tell you about it. Good luck, maybe I'll see you in September!

thanks! im anxiously awaiting the letter

Is W&L your first choice?

Btw, I remember you asked before about the Jewish presence at W&L, right politics?

On Thursday, I went to a Very Interesting Profession Luncheon at a local restaurant with W&L's chapter of Hillel, I thouroughly enjoyed it.

yea its one of my top choices. yup good memory Dima, so how active is the hillel there?

Hi,

I just got a letter by email informing me about my rejection. Does this mean that, in the case I would get additional scholarships from my home country, I could attend WLU???

I truly regret to inform you that Washington and Lee University will be unable to offer you the financial assistance necessary for you to enroll next year. For that reason, I must encourage you to pursue your educational goals elsewhere.

Our decision in your case was a very difficult one, I can assure you, and it was reached only after great deliberation. All aspects of your application indicate potential for academic and personal success at Washington and Lee. Unfortunately, we had a very strong group of international students vying for the financial resources we are able to make available to non-U.S. citizens, and those resources were exhausted in meeting the need of other applicants to the University.

Sorry to hear that...

I don't know exactly what this means. It seems like they're saying you're qualified to attend, but not to receive money. I would contact the admissions office ASAP to find out what the deal is. Good luck!

I thought admission was supposed to be need-blind?

The way it works to Americans who don't know is that international students have to prove they can pay for college beyond whatever the school plans to give you to be accepted there, since you're not eligible for US government grants, loans or federal work-study.

I would recommend calling the school to find out whether they would reconsider if you got some scholarships, make sure you do it ASAP though so you can be put in with the waitlist people if you get the scholarships and they agree to reconsider.

politics, sorry I didn't see your post before but the Hillel is a small organization so it's presence on campus is limited but they hold a lot of events (ie the Very Interesting Professors luncheons) and help celebrate Jewish holidays, sometimes joining together with Jewish congregations locally and in Roanoke.

REJECTED HERE AS WELL.
Acceptance ratio stated as 455/4000 applicants....Now thts a wow..number of applicants!
I am crestfallen:(
and thts a 11.375% acceptance ratio in the RD...isn't tht too low???

I've got rejected too.
I beleive they must have accepted somewhere around 1000 applicants. Half them is gonna attend somewhere else so they'll get their 500 students.

Jeff the German, I'm international too and I've got the same lines stating they couldn't accept me even if they wanted to and bla bla bla. They didn't say the part about the financial aid even if i asked for it. I beleive they send standardized letters to all the rejected candidates.

Yeahmeh??aren't u already in Kenyon thru ED II??

yes but i got rejected from WLU. If I would have been accpeted I wouldn't have enrolled.

is RD out for international students?

that would mean RD should be out of US students soon right?

Yeah the RD is out for the international students....Best of luck to all of the rest hoping to hear the good news.. but the disappointing thing is that acceptance rate is low!

Last year, according to W&L's site, 3649 people applied, 1077 people were accepted, and 461 enrolled.

So... last year 29.5 percent of the applicants were admitted, and the yield rate was 42.8%.

I'm guessing that the 455 listed in a previous post is the target number for the class this year, and the 4000 is the total number of applicants.

So... W&L should accept about 1060 applicants, which, with last year's yield, should form a class of about 455. With 4000 applications, the acceptance rate would be 26.5%.

Rejected :(
WLU has already admitted 3 students from my country under ED and ED2, so RD chance is absolutely dim.
