If I understand it correctly, the admissions office does not contact the financial aid office about any decision matters. But if this were true, wouldn't the financial aid office be calculating financial packets for ALL the applicants (who need FA) before decisions come out? Wouldn't that be a lot of work? It seems that it would be much easier if the admission office simply told them who was admitted...

Is this really how this works? Just wondering.... :p

The separation is that FA matters don’t affect admissions decisions. Of course they must work in concert to prepare FA offers for all admittees. It’s not difficult to imagine ongoing lists of acceptees being generated and given to the FA office. I’m sure FA is also geared for the bulk of decisions as it closes towards the deadlines too.

Thanks for replying; the reason I ask is because I recently received emails (from Duke FA, etc) saying they were preparing my FA package, though they said it was no indication that I had been admitted since “our FA offices do not work with admissions”. So that prompted me to wonder if every school’s system was like that or not.

They’re housed in different buildings. But yes, i imagine the admissions office sends financial aid a list of admitted students as they’re admitted so that they can prepare financial aid packages.

Hmm, the more interesting question to ask is why the finaid office contacted you about preparing your package, a more discrete form of likely letter?:)

I would take receiving contact from the financial aid office with a grain of salt, as I received several from Columbia and was ultimately rejected. In my experience, contact from them provides no indication of positive news come D-Day.

did you get perkins promissory links on your application status site? Thast’s the latest update I have about my financial aid situation. What did they cotnact you about?
