Admissions Process?

Hi!

It is starting to get to around that time where we are all either waiting to hear from The UC's we have applied to or have already heard back (if so i hope it is all positive!!) Since I am waiting on hearing back, I started wondering when do UC's actually look at our applications and make their decisions? We submitted them in November and hear back around April, so I am just interested to know when in that time frame they start looking at our applications I know every UC is different but I am just curious to know how it all works.

Thanks and good luck to all! :)

I’m going to make an educated guess and say that UCLA only starts looking at transfer applications after they’ve released the results for freshmen. There were 86,472 freshman applicants. They likely started reviewing applications the first day of December, then they had until 3/21 to review those applications and release the results. That’s almost 4 months to review 86472 applications. Which means around 22k applications per month. There were 19,352 transfer applicants so that would give them roughly a month from 3/21 to release decisions for transfer applicants which lines up with when decisions are usually released.

That’s only a guess which I concocted here while waiting for these UCLA admissions guys to at least say when the decisions will come out.

I spoke with an admissions officer at Berkeley today, and she said they had actually finished reviewing transfer applications. This kind of surprised me. Now just two and a half weeks of being anxious left to go.

Jesus, they’ve already decided my fate at Berkeley?!? And I have to wait 2 weeks to find out?!? How nerve-wracking!

If they already know, why won’t they just tell us?
Perhaps other things need to be situated first?
I don’t like being in limbo very much, it makes me irritable :p

@AnthroFlo Cal is one of the few UC’s that release their decisions in one big day, which is scheduled very early in the process, if I’m not mistaken.

If our decisions are already set and inputted onto their systems, it makes you wonder whether there are any ‘tricks’ to find out early.

@Cayton and @‌AnthroFlo

I know how you both feel. For some reason it’s comforting for me knowing that they have already decided. It’s like everything is already decided, and so there’s nothing I can do about it anymore, so I might as well relax. But I still am sooo anxious so I am right there with you guys.

Anthro, isn’t UCLA your top choice anyway? Who knows if they are done with the review process or not yet. Since I didn’t apply to UCLA I am even more nervous because it all comes down to Berkeley for me.

Well, I suppose that is a benefit. I take comfort in knowing that I will get my decision on the same day as everyone else. It sure beats the system of releasing admissions in waves. I am lucky, because my decisions came relatively early for the schools I applied to that released admissions in waves (UCSC, UCSB). I hate to imagine what it must be like to see everyone else get their notification and you are just stuck waiting.

UCLA is currently my top choice, but I am still open to the opportunities and possibilities available at the other universities I applied to.

I wish there was a way I could acquire and give everyone else peace of mind about all of this.

There’s a trick with Berkeley that was floating on CC from a while back involving the summer session. Don’t even know if it works. I was going to do summer session anyways, so I might as well try it.

Does anyone know about the appealing system?! like how much time will we have?! or when/how should we do it?
