Admissions Process

It is true that Penn admissions works as follows:

-1st person to read your application is the regional rep. They decide who goes on to the next stage.

-Then applicants are given a rating 1-9; 9 being the best on both academic and EC

-From there you better pray to GOD. :)

I can ask the people in wharton undergrad for ya tomorrow. I work there.

youre right about the 1-9 thing. i think its called the academic index?

regional rep reads all the apps and generates an opinion about each candidate.

regional rep sits down with dean of admission and an admissions rep from the school you applied to (i.e. nursing, wharton, seas, sas) and pitches each candidate to the two adcoms. They all decide if you get accepted or not. So if the regional rep likes your app he or she can push for you.

here is a behind-the-scenes look at penn's admissions process showing the point system and the committee decisions:

So basically the fate of my college admissions rests with the regional rep huh? Dizzam.

What I was wondering is: who is your regional rep? Is it from the region of the high school or from where I live? (I go to high school in another region according to Penn).

Regional reps usually look at all apps from certain geographical areas.

Well yes I know that but who would my regional rep be? The region of my school or that of my residence? If anybody has any idea it would be helpful (although I may have to call Penn up to find out anyways).

It's on their website and I think they go by where you live and not by your school. They say it helps to contact your regional rep. Don't bug them but just let them know you exist.

i believe it's by your schools region...definitely try to get to know your regional rep. For example when I was applying the regional rep came to give a talk at my school and it ended up being her, two other students, and myself just chatting. She definitely remembered me because in my admission letter she sent me a personal note saying congrats and asking my knee was doing (she was at my h.s. right after I had had knee surgery).

Behind The Scenes Man

Thanks for the link, Bern.

I will try and find out why my rep is (whether school, which is most likely, or by home). I used to have contact with a rep but apparently he isn't an admissions rep anymore. I had a few questions to ask anyways so I will give whoever my representative is a call.

they love it when you ask them in a snooty voice "where to send the check"
Tell them Amy sent you

haha... i'm gonna call tomorrow and tell them that... exactly how much do you know about the admissions process, JCoveney?

Seeing as he's the one that admitted the class of 09 AND 10, probably a lot! Yes, he read every essay.

anyone out there know anything about the regional rep for southern california, Celeste Morgan

eh, I've talked with various wharton advisors about admissions, and I also talked to the lady who runs the program I was in about them. Also, my guidance counselor for high school was a college admissions god.

But the humorous answer is:

so's your mother

***? ur soooo random
not a bad thing, just thought i'd point it out

Are the ADCOM people "cool" or just a bunch of old people???
