We are OOS, and daughter has the stats for a National Scholars Award. I would assume this would make her eligible for automatic admission for U of Iowa. The problem is that our high school doesn't rank. If we plug her other stats into the Regent Admission Index calculator with an estimated rank she is well over the 245 points she needs. So my question is, when she submits her application later this summer, can she expect a quick decision (48 hours?!) as she could if her high school ranked students? If not, does anyone know what process is used instead?

I got my decision in like 4 days. I called Rebecca Hanson from the admissions team and she was extremely helpful. But she works in international recruitment.
Just call the admissions and explain the situation. They are very helpful and cooperative.
One of the best and responsive admissions team I’ve ever seen.

My high school doesn’t rank either.
I didn’t calculate, they did for me.
If her SATs and GPA are good she’ll do just fine.

I echo Bluechleric. Our high school does not rank, it is becoming much more common. My daughter got her admission decision within 24hrs last year. She applied in August and will be attending this fall.

Will be filling out application tomorrow so hopefully will hear something before DD’s dad’s birthday on July 21.

Just to follow up and answer my own question, my daughter received her acceptance yesterday, which calculates to 3 business days after the 1st, I believe. In case others were wondering! Thanks to those who replied.

@glorious9th: Congratulations! My D submitted her application on July 24th so hopefully she will hear something soon.

ETA: She was accepted!

I submitted my application on the 1st, still waiting for my admission decision.

Just got email that our daughter was accepted. Very cute video made where they stuck her name in several times. Good job Iowa!

@newfaith When did your daughter submit her application?

Her application went in the second week of July I believe.

Iowa is very proactive with the NSA applicants. They know that these bright kids will be applying elsewhere as well so they will give quick admits–with the scholarship award-- to early applicants, as newfaith found out, even if there is still 9+ months to commitment date. The old ‘bird in the hand’ thing…
