Admissions Questions

I am kind of confused. I heard from someone the other day that Hopkins doesn't count freshman high school grades. Is this true?
But to complicate things....I started taking high school classes when I was in 7th grade. So how would that work if they don't count freshman grades.
I was also curious about SAT Subject Tests. I have taken 2 already and I did well on both of them. But I wasn't sure whether or not Hopkins wants students to take 3 or not.
How many are you suppose to take?

I'm not sure about SAT Subject Tests--but many people start High School classes before 9th grade. What I think will probably happen is that nothing will be considered but 10th-12th grade classes and 7th-9th grade courses could only stand to affect your rank.

Subject tests are not required by Hopkins (recommended, but you definitely don't need them to get accepted - like me).

To answer your first question about freshman grades, Hopkins certainly does look at them but they are not nearly as important as junior and sophomore grades. AdmissionsDaniel has pointed this out on numerous occaisions.

So should I take another Subject test? I have taken Bio M and US History. I was considering taking spanish in the fall.

Well, like that above poster said you don't need them, but Hopkins "recommends" them, and it recommends 3 tests.

If I were you I'd just take the third test no matter what. I took 3 tests and I got accepted, if Hopkins recommends it then there must be some reason behind it, right? Better be safe than sorry ;)

My advice to you: take the Spanish test (its easy I was is Spanish 4 and I got a 760/800 on the test)

Freshman year grades DO COUNT bad grades freshman year could very well be a reason you don't get accepted. Yes, they don't count as much as Junior year, but they still count!!!

Good Luck, and perhaps I'll see you at JHU in a few :)

thank you vader1990. I took spanish 3 last year and I am taking a spanish class this summer at BSU. Im planning on taking AP Spanish. SO i guess i will just go for it.
Im much happier with freshman year counting. I had very good grades my freshman year with tough classes.

While freshman year does count, it is not as important as junior and sophomore.

I agree its not as important as Junior year, but its still important--just a little bit less on the importance scale.
