Admissions' Statistics

It seems like a two step process to me.
Step one:Apply
Step two:Hope for the best

yeah, I think the only thing I don't like about Yale is it's low admissions rate, but then again, that is part of what makes it so alluring.

Yeah, it's quite the Siren.

Also, if you apply early and have pretty much the same application as an RD-er except for the fact that you're EA and they're RD, they will probably accept the EA. Think about it, the EA showed early interest by committing to apply only to Yale early and the officer is going to have to feel at least a little guilt whenever he/she essentially rejects someone twice.

That's what I think because EA also doesnt have as much time to get the app ready.

But in the RD round, do they know who all applied EA? Or are the EA apps just thrown in one big pile along with the RD ones?
Of course they might remember those that applied EA but still..

I came across this .pdf at random while doing an unrelated search, and I think it might be of interest. It has historical admission data from 1979-2001.

<a href="http://www.yale.edu/oir/book_numbers_updated/D7_Summary_YC_Admissions_1979_2001.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.yale.edu/oir/book_numbers_updated/D7_Summary_YC_Admissions_1979_2001.pdf</a></p>

to tarzan: i honestly don't think they feel any remorse in rejecting a person twice, but i think you're right when you say if two people are equal, the EA with get in

Should be around 5% acceptance rate for Yale RD.

742 applicants were admitted to Yale through SCEA. Assuming that 80% (a little low) of these choose to enroll, that's 594 students already in the class of 2013.

Yale likes to have an entering class of around 1300. Put another way, Yale needs about 700 more students for the class of 2013. Since Yale RD has a yield of around 70%, it needs to admit approximately 1000 students.

20368 students applied RD. Add the 2645 students who were deferred from SCEA. That gives a total RD applicant pool of 23013.

1000 students admitted out of 23013 gives an RD admit rate of 4.35%. Delightfully low, eh? :D

They'll admit a little more than 1000 RD. They said 1900-2000 overall. Take the low end, subtract 742, divide by 23013 and you get about 5%. If they admit more than 1900 overall, then obviously it goes up.

I suspect many schools with large increases in applicants will be more conservative with admissions numbers and put more people on waiting lists instead. These schools really cannot afford to have too many people matriculate.

Interesting. 6% of applicants in my area was admitted last year overall. This year, 6% has already been admitted - with more to come RD.

i need help deciding.
i currently got accepted to harvard, yale, stanford, MIT, and cornell
i find it very hard to make the decision as to which one to go to.
they ALL gave me scholarship
help please?

^^A bit late, aren’t you? The national decision date was May 1. And Ivies don’t give merit-based scholarships.

Your qualifications look excellent. I would say you should reach out to the Women’s Tennis Coach to see if there is a chance for you to get recruited as you would be well qualified on the academic side. I hate to say this but Division I sports talent is a major differentiator…
